    8) TITLE: Animal Emergency Law
SUMMARY: The Animal Emergency Law should be instituted for the well-being
    of all animals.

    Message from "Barbara Bagley":
Did you know that if your animal were to suffer an extreme "emergency",
most veterinarians will not lift a finger to help your animal unless you
can pay UPFRONT, the FULL cost of your animal's visit? These veterinarians
will not even consider allowing you to create an account with them so that
you can make monthly payments, until the account is paid off. Not every
pet owner is so financially well-off to pay the full cost upfront.
Please read and sign this petition in support of an "Animal Emergency Law"
that will prohibit veterinarians from turning away any animal in need of
emergency care due to the owner's inability to pay UPFRONT and IN-FULL the
cost of that visit, and will enable the owner to create an account in which
to make monthly payments to pay off that visit.
    {Please, spread the word about this petition}

Okay, I read the entire link, as well as the privacy policy and so on. They don't ask you for your e-mail and you don't have to send an e-mail after you sign it. Also they don't ask you for your home address or phone number(s). All good things. I won't sign stuff if I have to give away a bunch of private info.

So, anyway...I signed it. I think it should turn into a law.

I hope others will sign it too.

i signed it!!! i think its great.. and i sent and e-mail to all of my friends and family that have animals and they signed it to!!!when garfield got hit by a car i couldnt get not one vet over here where i live to treat him unless they had $$ upfront and i wasnt able to make payments i had to go 2 counties over to get him treated and they let me take payments but that was a hour and a half drive its crazy....

Wow! there are a lot more people that signed it since I did! For some reason it doesn't compute how many votes were submitted in the last 7 days, but it does update the amount of signatures.

FMgurl43: That's really aweful about how the vets treated your kitty. I'm also in the medical field and I NEVER turn anyone away due to lack of funds. I have a few people paying me as little as $10-$50 a month, basically for the rest of their lives (without interest). I don't know about you, but I do believe in Karma. What goes around comes around. I think these people that won't treat a person or an animal will eventually have what is coming to them. Whatever this may be. I do wonder though how these people sleep at night.

i agree chessmind they will get what they deserve... when i do get my license 4 vet i know i wont trun anyone down i know how it feels when ur pet is in need and no one will help... im just happy i found a place that would treat my garfeild and rule out what was wrong if it wasnt 4 that vet garfield would of probably died...and luckily the vet bill was only $95 4 office visit and 2 x-rays fluids and antiobiotics and i only had to pay $20 up front and paid the rest off by the end of that month....

You're going to be a vet? That is wonderful! That's what I should have been! LOL. I thought about it before I went to dental school, but then I thought I may get too sad if I had to put animals to sleep and so on. The irony is that dentists have the highest suicide rate of any profession! LOL. Don't worry, I'm quite content, but I do find this bit of info amusing.

yes im studing to be a vet since i was 5 thats what i always said i was gonna do i love animals all animals....its hard putting them to sleep ive done it working at vet offices but if the animal is suffering and there is nothing more to do its the best thing to do now putting an animal down b/c u didnt want it anymore etc.. i dont agree w/ that and i will refuse to do that and so far all the vets a i have worked at refuse to put animals down b/c of that reason....my sis in law works at animal services and she has to put animals down just beacuse there r to many in the shelter b/c of ppl not wanting them i couldnt do her job!!!!id have to live on a huge farm cause id be takin every animal home w/ me.....

LOL. That's another reason I didn't become a vet. I figured by the time I retired I'd probably have about a million animals that I adopted. Now, that I think about it, that's not such a bad thing. LOL. I think it's great you're going to be a vet.
