yes in addition to keifer and lydia i now have heidi. Heidi is a pitch black cat with HUGE green eyes. this is how heidi became part of our family...not necessarily a happy tale...

matt and i were at a friends house hanging out when two of his three dogs started going crazy outside. the three of us ditched the party to see all the commotion... i came outside to see my friend's parents standing there shouting at something behind the garage...then they say hey go get princess (the 3rd dog, jack russel) ....I'm not bashing dogs by anymeans. i love those guys but they aren't the brightest when it comes to frightened cats.
so they let princess out, over my protesting, thinking she'd scare it away. it naturally swiped princess on the nose scaring her so that she fell over. Chris (my friend) runs after the cat and tries to boot it, misses as matt and i are yelling at him to stop. at this time my face was bright red and i was furious!
then he keeps going and completely punts her. matt and chris' mom yelled and i turned right around and walked inside so as not to tackle chris. i sat for a second til the dogs went back in cried and vented to another buddy of mine inside.

i went back outside to scale 1/3 of a big huge pine tree and nab her to get her down. she is tiny, bony and confused. she didn't bite, scratch or throw a fit. she just curled up in my arms and purred.

i think she was abandoned.. she had what was a flea collar on the it looked like she had gotten in when she was very young and she had grown into it. she had a litter somewhere down the line.

i sat and thought while i was watching her scarf down some kitty food that i didn't know anyone that wanted a cat, but i just couldn't let her go.

chris feels terrible, as he should. i know how protective he is of his pups and thats fine but what he did was wrong. he knows that. i don't resent him but i won't forget that i've never seen him behave like that. i will feel better around him after i know that she's ok.

i figured she's about 6 to 8 months old and had been without a home for sometime, she has a scare from a fight that has long been healed. i'm calling the vet on monday and the family is taking a trip to the vets! fun fun

so here i am back to square one with a new baby.

I would be furious as well if I witnessed something like that. That poor baby...I'm so glad you took her in.

Friend or not, this type of behavior is wrong and should not be tolerated. I would've taken Heidi in as well if I were in your situation. Does she get along with keifer and Lydia?

Would have got a swift kick up the ass from me too!!! There's never an excuse for inflicting pain on an animal in my book :x Hope Heidi comes on in leaps and bounds in you loving care.

Good news! Heidi is doing just fine.

She's loving and is so much like Kiefer. However I haven't introduced Heidi to Kiefer and Lydia yet. Kiefer has been glued to the door since she came home. I think after a bit Heidi and Kiefer will get along well. I don't know about Lydia though.

Her vet visit went well. She tested negative for everything except for ear mites but since we've gotten the drops she's been doing fine. We're going to keep them apart until we take her back for another Luekemia (sp) test. She tested negative the first time but I would hate for it to be dormat and then open Kiefer and Lydia up to that so we're playing it safe.

However for every bit of good news, there's usually something bad. The vet said that judging by Heidi's teets that her litter was very recent. Matt and I spent hours Monday evening searching for her babies, but did not find them. For that, I feel guilty. I wish I could have found them. I just keep thinking that I took their mother away.

Heidi is fotunate to find a forever home with you. I'm sorry that you found out she had a recent litter and can't find the babies. It's not your fault and how could you have known anyway? If she's 6-8 months old, then she's still a baby herself. Her litter may have been stillborn, abandonned, or became prey. Perhaps she had a phantom pregnancy. Or, maybe someone like Jennyret and Bellack found them and took care of them. I'm glad Heidi is healthy so far and in good hands.
