MY PUPPY HAS PARVO AND IS AT THE VETS, HE REMAINS OPTOMISTIC SINCE WE CAUGHT IT EARLY, BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SURVIVING, IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS AND HOW DID THEY DO AFTERWARDS.

I tie guy there are quit a few parvo survires on this board if you look at the top of this forum there is a "sticky" regarding parvo i would recomend that you do the cleaning sugested in that thread. My nala (rottie) surived parvo she stayed in the vet for 1 week but she came out ok. I know sarges mom went thru parvo and took care of him at home hopefully she will pop in here also

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Punkin is a parvo survivor. She got parvo at just 6 weeks of age. She was in the Humane Society and basically doomed. So I took her home with only the intentions of getting treated and well again...But after all I went through with her and all she had been through I couldn't let her go. So I adopted her and now she's a happy healthty 14 month old.

The fact that you caught it early makes all the difference in the world, believe me. I was a vet tech for 12 yrs., and we saved over 50% of the parvo cases, and that was 10 yrs ago so I would think the odds of survival would be even higher now. Certain breeds seem to get it especially bad, and have a lower survival rate, for some reason. These are Rotts, Pits and Dobies. A dog can be doing pretty well, and suddenly get very bad, but I've also seen dogs who were on death's doorstep that survived. I'd say that if you caught it within a day or two of the onset of symptoms, and your dog isn't one of the above breeds, you have a pretty decent chance of survival.

    tie the parvo guy

thanks to everyone who responded to my little puppy tie, he actually came home today and seems to be doing good, i am trying not to be too optomistic for another week, by then i would think we should be ok. i rescued tie from a county shelter in georgia, my 8 year old dog had just died from necrotizing pancreatitis, it was the worst thing i have had to go through, i felt it was the right thing to do to save a dog from a shelter. he came home with lots of paracites, worms and parvo. if i lost him too i would have felt horrible. is this year almost over? oh ya my dog that died was named collar, what goes with collar, yup, tie.

Naturally, I log on today when I am too late to help! I am so sorry I missed your earlier post. My GSD did survive PArvo, I nursed him myself at home w/I.V's, parvo tea, chicken broth, Pediolyte, antibiotics (for any secondary infections) and I bleached, bleached, bleached, bleached and bleached his cage, and virtually my house and yard. He made it too.

I am so very happy that he is doing better. Parvo is a horrible disease. If you have any questions, please feel free to Private Message me for a faster response. On a side note, Vets say that dogs do not "relapse" with Parvo. But, our dog did. And I know tons of people who had similar experiences, so if it happens, don't panic. Just get on this site and ask for a little "at home" advice!
