Before my beloved Tigger passed on yesterday (had to put him down) he was suffering from CRF...he ended up being scared as he was going blind...the night before I got up and startled him and he attacked my foot badly.
It swelled up to twice the size and I saw a doctor first thing yesterday morning...I am on high dose antibiotics for ten days...and am still very swollen and suffering today, I have heard horror stories about this and am scarred still, at what point would anyone recommend going to a hospital? I have taken only 3 doses of the antibiotics, should I continue to wait??
Thanks..and by the by, I don't hold this against my poor Tigger cat, it was his way of telling me that he had had enough....may you rest in peace Tiggy pooh.

I was bit pretty badly by my cat Moe. She got me through the leg muscles twice. I was on antibiotics for 10 days. If you got the antibiotics soon enough you should be fine. Keep taking the antibioltics until the perscription is complete, even if the wounds are looking healed! Keep the area clean and regularily disinfected with peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Watch the area closely. If the swelling increases, or there are any colour changes, call/see the doctor right away.

If you are worried, another doctor's visit will not hurt. Better safe than sorry! A friend of mine almost lost her entire hand from a cat bite!

    Ouch it hurts doesn't it.

You have only taken only 3 doses of the antibiotics. I suggest you should wait at least 2-3 days with continuing of antibiotics. I never had cat a cat bite but a dog bite on my knee. Yes it swollen doubles the size of my knee and had difficulties in kneeling. The doctor gave me a shot and antibiotics. It subsided I think, 2-3 days. I can’t remember I was in such great pain. But if you can’t bear the pain I suggest you consult your doctor again. Did your doctor give you shots? I think it would heal faster with shots and continuing of antibiotics than just taking antibiotics orally.

    May you heal fast.

I'm so sorry about Tigger. *HUGS*

I'd call your doctor for peace of mind. Yes, hubby got bitten by an outside cat and his hand was swollen for a few weeks. It was swollen for a whole week and he almost passed out at work. They gave him an iv drip with antibiotics.

It's a very bad sign if you seen red streaking going up towards the trunk of the body. You would definitely require emergecy help. Otherwise, expect the swelling to last quite a while.

Keep a very close eye on your infection. Do everything your doctor advices. Halaroo's advice pretty much sums it up. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. [-o<

I would suggest that you also watch for a fever. And the red streaks up the leg too would be really bad.

Hi, how is your foot? Is your foot still swollen and in pain or has it subsided progressively? Did you consult your doctor the next day? Hope nothing major and speedy recovery. :0020:
