A little graphically descriptive symptom-wise, so plz stop here if you are sensitive..LOL......

Until I can get to the vet on MON I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything different than what I am doing. My 8 yr old in the brood(and my favorite) has had for the past few days a milky secretion in one or both of his nostrils. [Originally prior to that it was more clear and runnier]. It doesn't really run out at all so hard to get it out with just a kleenex, so I have been using an infant sized nasal aspirator with and without some water to try and remove it. It works ok for awhile but a few hours later it comes back and I have been repating the process. I was wondering if its dangerous or hurtful to even do this since I blow air into the sinuses as well as extract air with the aspirator. I also have been giving him 2 mg/12 hrs of plain OTC human chlorphenoramine(not a mixed sinus allergy drug) as I read this is ok to do and have had similar prescrip from the vet. No apparent fever and no runny eyes. He was diagnosed a few yrs ago as asthmatic and occasionally I have had him on prednisone but have not given any recently, altho 2 or 3 times a day he does go into a 15-30 second coughing fit. And this coughing has been going on for couple of months. I let it go because I thought maybe it was just a seasonal thing. He hasn't coughed at all to my knowledge the last few days and I have been around the house alot. The last 2 days he has been very lazy and he kind of yelps for a second if I try to move him or pick him up, which is unusual. His appetite also kinda sux, tho he did go after some regular pieces of chicken today that I also was eating. I have not seen him drink much water since he lazes around alot so I have been giving him some by dropper since yesterday. He also seems thinner and more bony than I am used to seeing him, perhaps it's my imagination.
I hope I can get into the SPCA clinic today or MONDAY, today not looking good as of this late hour. These symptoms may go beyond just a sinus infection considering the coughing history he has had. He has had no shots for about 2 years but before that it was annual, and he is strictly indoors.
Oh one other thing, he has had some crusty irritation under his chin like dried blood and scabbiness so 2 days ago I put some neosporin on it and rubbed it in good. The area is within his tongue distance reach so I took a chance that the neo would not harm him. He didnt seem to lick there anyways after I put it on him, but I didn't stay much longer than a minute to watch him to make sure he didnt lick it. Seems like the laziness and appetite loss started right after I put this stuff on him. Perhaps just a coincidence??!?!

Any ideas appreciated~~~~I have been using this board alot the last week it seems. And very grateful for its existence and participation.

Also, does anyone know of a live chat forum for cats on the web????

when you use, what I always called a "booger snatcher" you shouldn't have to blow air into his nose. Squeeze the bulb prior to putting it up to his nose to get the air out.
Maybe a saline nasal spray would help? It's harmless but does help to keep the mucus membranes inside the nasal passages moist
