Aquarium salt? Use it, or not?

    Hi all.
I see aquarium salt mentioned a lot and was wondering if that's something I might want to look into using? I have a 10 gallon set up, it's only been going for a couple of days so far (just moved, fish are doing excellent) and when the tank is ready and has cycled I'd like to add some ghost shrimp and 3 pygmy cory cats to put in with my current 3 fish. Would the salt at some point harm the ghost shrimp if I used salt either now, or when I get them? I don't know how long the salt stays in the water, or how often to use it. Thanks!

Unless you're treating a specific illness (such as ich or nitrIte poisoning), there is no need to use salt in a freshwater tank. Some say it helps prevent illnesses, but there has been no empirical evidence to prove that.

    Thanks for your advice Chelle!
I won't add any since I don't have any illnesses or disease in my tank!
