Aw I swear the weather and time cahnge for us is the worst time of the year this time every year at least one or two pets get sick :( . Poor things and now its poor Pantera's turn. Friday I noticed she was really out there just kinda laying around and not eating. I knew something was definatly wrong so I took Pantera in the Laundry room aka quarentine and called the vets office well they told me they wern't open until Mondayand to just keep an eye on her and if she was worse in the morning to either to take her to the Valley Pet Hospital or call the disease hotline they have. She was shivering a bit so I bundled her up and put her in the cat bed in there and he was just like a rag doll but she did drink water for me. I spent the whole night in the laundry room with Pantera and when I woke up in the morning then she was only worse drooling, and had discharge from her poor eyes and nose and had a rumbling sound when she breathed. So I took her to the Emergency in the pet Hosptial right away.

Poor thing was diagnosed with FVR so they have her a few shots and put her on a IV luckily we caught it early they said. So she stayed there Saterday, Sunday, and Monday and I picked her up Tuesday. She's still gotta be quarentined for 6 more days until we are sure she's better so she's on anitbiotics and staying in the Laundry room. She has started eating a bit on her own soem soft food with her medicine. She's still pretty frail but getting better everyday.

We had the other cats checked out earlier today at our regular vet and they said they were all perfectly healthy and gave them the vaccine to prevent them from getting it for now ( a vaccine I never knew of before) but said we might want to keep Pantera away from then longer then 6 more days their saying something like sixteen. Who knows. Im just so afraid right now because Pantera's still not out of the woods and can still die any time, or she could become completely or partially blind because of this, or even carry the disease and be infectouse the rest of her life :( .
So please pray for her she needs it.

Anyone else who has gone through this I would love to hear how you got through it. Because this is scary.

I'm so sorry your kitty is sick. I'm glad to hear she is eating and drinking though...a good sign.

For those who don't know (I didn't and had to do a Google search) FVR is a type of "flu" virus. I found this site when I did a search

I hope your baby gets well soon..She is in my thoughts...

Poor Pantera ! About 2 years ago I went through the same thing, my oldest cat Mitzi came down with cat flu she had eye discharge and blocked nose - really feeling sorry for herself, I took her to the vet (who diagnosed cat flu, she had picked it up at the vet the week before having a broken tooth removed!) and they said they couldn't give her anything to help as long as she didn't get too dehydrated and was eating she would probably be ok, the vet said to put her in a room alone so she wouldn't spread it to the other cats, she was only in there one day as the next day the other 4 cats all came down with it
Then my boyfriend and I both came down with colds too!
I was so worried, I'd read about cat flu and its fairly serious as you know, with 5 cats all sick at the same time it was a complete nightmare, when cats get blocked up noses they can't smell there food so they don't eat and can get weak, we brought the most expesive cat food you can buy and they wouldn't eat it, so at food time we would run a hot bath and let the bathroom get all steamed up and take the cats in there for 10 mins until there noses were a bit cleared up and then give them food, they would eat it then but still not much (most of that expensive food ended up in the bin), we made sure they were drinking enough too.
Mitzi and Courtney had it the worst they were looking very sick for the first week and I was so worried, I remember crying down the phone to my mum because I was conviced with 5 sick cats odds were one of them was going to die, luckily I was wrong.
Every morning we would get up and check how everyone was, pick off the crusty snot off of there noses, I know it sounds disgusting but there nothing worse that having crusty snot blocking your nose up is there?! Then wash off there eyes if the discharge was getting bad.
Well it was two weeks until they were all better, then courtney went missing for 3 days, I was out there every night calling her and she didn't come
Then she turned up home like nothing had happened, looking pretty ill again and with 2 ticks stuck to her one on the neck and one between the toes, we tried to remove them with tweezers but they just made me feel sick so we put some tick killing stuff on her and they fell off dead the next day, courtney was back to health within a few more days.
Now they are all perfectly happy and healthy again.
I hope Pantera will be ok, theres not much you can do except make sure shes eating and drinking unfortunatly.
Let us know how shes doing.

I'm so sorry for both you and Pantera :(
I'm sure she'll be ok, but it's horrible to wach your pet being sick...
Kyrre had worms about a week ago, he wouldn't eat or drink either and got very weak.
I had to check if he were still breathing all the time, i was so worried!
It was a relief when he got better after I gave him a worm cure (?)

I wish you both the best of luck *hugs*

Ginger I all know about the joys of picking the crusty snot off Panteras nose so she feels better and will eat more. The fun is immense. Its a huge job because after everytime i got in the room with Pantera I have to shower really well so the others don't get sick i mean i know they just got those shots but im taking no chances. Thanks again everyone for your good wishes.
