Baby Kittens around dog with Parvo.

My pup has Parvo and we're caring for him as best we can. About an hour ago, 2 kittens, probably 5 weeks old were brought to our house (it appears as if they were dumped on the side of the road, which is real common in this area). The thing is, when we let them in the house and put them down, they ran to a plate of wet food that the puppy had been nibbling on and they both started eating away. I was just wondering if kittens can get a feline version of Parvo from the puppy?

 

No they wont get it from him. They can get a form of parvo called panleukopenia but its strictly a cat disease and is not something they get from a dog.

They can however carry it on their feet....meaning say they walk through where the dog has shed some of the virus in his poop...they can carry it on their feet and say if they were going into next doors garden and next door had an unvaccinated puppy....then there is the possibility there that puppy would get parvo (people also can carry it on their shoes etc)....that said though, at 5 weeks old I doubt the kittens are jumping the fence yet

So, dont worry about them getting sick from this but they will need all the regular cat vaccines soon and you might want to have them tested for FIV and FeLV in a couple of weeks, theyre a bit too young right now for this.

It's not a good thing for cats to be eating dog food... specially kittens with much different needs then a puppy
