I was just sitting here talking to a friend online. I looked at my 8 year old dog. I saw a cream colored twig up her rare end just hanging out. I didn't think much of it. I looked again and it moved. Got closer and I think it's a worm. I confined her in the kitchen. I don't want it *cries* How would I know if I catch it? I have two other dogs and a sick cat. I went to look under my dog's tail and it was gone. I don't know if it went back in or not. Suggestions please!.. I told my dad we will have to take her to the vet asap. For crying out loud I don't want any worms in me!

sounds like tapeworm. Meds from the vet will help that quickly. If you can take a fecal in with you.

Relax. Take her to the vet and get her some medicine. Wash your hands and practice good hygiene and you will be fine.

Is she on any sort of heartworm preventative? If not she should be. The heartworm stuff Igive my dogs is also a dewormer type thing. You need to go to the vet and find out what type of worm it is so you can treat it. You and your family are not going to get the worms unless you are doing something you shouldn't be. They can be very contagious to other animals though. You need to make sure you pick up all her poop out the yard or whereever she goes.
