I only bathe a cat if it's necessary. They do a better job of keeping themselves clean than we can.
I have bathed fosters when they come to me covered in dandruff, I have bathed my Zeus when he was a kitten and pooped all over himself in the carrier coming back from a vet appointment.
That's it....I don't think cats need bathes unless they've gotten into something or require a medicated shampoo for some reason.

"Dirty looks from them" will be the least of your problems....you need:

    full body armour
face armour (motorbike helmets with full visors work well)
leg protection.....I hear those new shark suits work well!!!
    arm protection
thick gloves....lead ones work well although Ive felt teeth comes right through them.

Good luck....Ill be thinking about you !!!!

I am lucky - both my cats are very clean... the one is a bit overweight and has long 'pants' (hair at the bum and that area), so I do have baby wipes for when she needs a little help. I also have the big kitty wipes to wipe them down before someone comes over who i kow is allergic to cats. The kitty cloths help take the dander out of the fur, only temporarily though.

I don't even want to try to wash them - I like all 10 fingers and my nose where they are!

  I only know all that from experience

One of my cats had got himself covered in car oil after destroying the screen to escape out of the bathroom....for some strange reason I thought it would be a good idea to bathe him....at 2am when I found him. He made it very clear that he did not want to participate in this 'fun' activity but I perservered....as one does....I had this brain wave, I put a leash on him, kínd of like a harness....that way I could stop him from jumping out of the bath tub....of course it didnt occur to me that he would catapult himself right in my direction  scratches up my legs, my body....hanging on 'for his life' by his teeth and all four feet full of claws....in my arm, the scratches on my face didnt swell up too much and you couldnt really see the ones on my head unless they started bleeding again....still, it gave everyone at work some entertainment when I walked in at 6am all bug eyed, scarred and swollen, with my cat who was still covered in car oil.

I'm sorry I can't stop laughing at this thread. The descriptions are just too funny. Poor DeLa. :love_y_t_much: I briefly had a kitten that needed a bath daily. She did not groom herself. I also had to bathe some foster kittens I've had at one time. They were covered in their own poop. Luckily for me, they were all very gentle creatures and I was unharmed. The waterless bath is a great idea! :y_the_best:

When I was little I had a cat "tiger"... (I think all of them were named tiger! LOL!)

Anyway, I insisted that this cat NEEDED to be bathed at least a few times a year.
To this day I can still see the poor thing with all 4 paws spread out in the doorway trying not to go in the bathroom, with screaming meows that sounded like he was saying "HHHEEEELLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!".

My cats are so tolerant... ;)

I guess i'm the oddball here. I bathe my cat, Vianne, on a regular basis. every 3-6 weeks. Several of the men in my family are severely allergic and i just like to keep on top of her grooming. helps out with shedding a LOT too.

I've been doing this since she was about 4 months old. I wouldnt say she LOVES getting a bath, but she really only ever gives me dirty looks about it when i go to shampoo her, lol. She's never scratched me at bathtime, ever. Just the occasional vocal complaint if i'm going too slow, haha. Here's a pic of her getting impatient with me

    haha

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read this thread! The last bathing experience I had with my Sherbert was a shredding fest, I came out looking like the Thanksgiving leftovers... (shredded turkey and cranberry sauce to be specific) I do not plan on giving my Winks any kind of bath unless absolutely nessecary. If ever he needs a bath I'll just dust off my suit of armor... :m39:
