my texas recently has had his lower fins(right beneth his head) and his lower jaw turned black. i have no idea if it's just a color change or if its water quality problems or just the fish.. any ideas!??! and no i cant test the nitrIte and nitrAte or amonia or ph cuz i dont have the kits for that

I suggest you buy test kits for those things because we can't really tell you much w/o knowing those readings. It sounds like it could be ammonia burn, but w/o those test results, I can't tell you how bad the situation is. Or there's a possibility that it's not ammonia burn and I should start looking at other options.

Bottom line: if you kee an aquarium, you really need those test kits. In the mean time, try doing a water change.
