hi,I'm new to this ,so hope someone can help me. My cat (nearly two years old) keeps getting horrible black scabs around his bottom jaw,I took him to the vet but she didn't seem to know what it was but gave me some ointment to put on it which i did for a while but being a cat he finds a way of getting it off and i don't like him eating too much of it as it has cortisone in it plus other stuff. He has never eaten out of plastic so i know that isn't the cause.I bathe it (when he lets me) and can sometimes scrape the scabs off,but it keeps coming back. Has anyone else had this problem?if so perhaps you may be able to help me...

wow! i have never seen that. when i read the post i thought of an article that i read about food dishes, and making sure they are clean and rinsed well. also, some plastic dishes can cause skin problems. the types that are the best are ceramic and stainless steel. but after reading that article...im inclined to think it sounds like acne. ooohh...didnt look good did it?

My Pumpkin developed black scab around her mouth shortly after she ate a bird a couple of years ago. I let her out for no longer than 2 min.flat and she had feathers sticking out of her mouth. She lost her sweet voice (sounds like a hag now) and occassionally breaks out in cat cold sores or herpes around her mouth. I wonder if that's what your kitty has. Keeping the food dishes clean is good advice. Is your kitty on a steady food diet- no changes in feeding? Does he go outside? :m29:
