would it be a good idea to call my local vets to find good reputable breeders....

It wouldn't hurt to check with local vets and see if they know of any individuals who have good, healthy breeding stock. But they probably won't know how reputable those people are.

A better source might be local or regional kennel clubs. There are usually several regional kennel clubs in a state, and many breeds have state clubs. Contact the national club and see if there's a state club for the breed you're interested in.

 

Thats a good idea. But like shine said. check with state breeders lists or Registration breeders ...
