I'll give you my general warning about getting into fish breeding.

Before you start, make sure you will be able to find homes for the fry. Your best bet would be to make a deal with a LFS, but keep in mind, not all of them will buy from individuals. The last thing you need is 100 goldfish and no place to house them.

You will also need large grow out tanks which means space & $$$.

so true!! you really dont want that. im stuck with 40 platy fry and no homes for them. and no deal with lfs

 

If i am not wrong, it is virtually impossible to sex out outside the breeding season.. During the breeding season, you can find white spots on the gills.

 

Females are supposed to have a bump in the vent/anal area whereas males are supposed to be a bit concave, but I have a difficult time telling the difference.

i only have a 20L Tank but i am buying a lot bigger one !!!

there is 1 more thing i want 2 know if i do end up finding homes then do i give them or sell ??

and how much for a bigger tank and how big

well it will depend on who is taking it. i sudgest homes usually free cause its a gold fish. well atlease for your friends. and check your lfs i doubt they will pay for them usually they just want donations cause they can get them cheaper.

My neighbor has a 300 Gallon outdoor pond and its been up and running for about 8 years and he says that just letting nature take its course keeps him over-run with more goldfish every year, also supposaidly goldfish breed more easily in large ponds then in indoor tanks but im not sure, good luck!

 

I'd believe it. I know my guppies sure do. I've had at least 6 batches of guppies in the past 2 months. I started out with a male & 2 females and now I wouldn't be surprised if I had over 200. I just checked this morning and have around 50 newborn guppies.
