Brie dog now has...

pancreatitis!! UGH!! I took her back to the vet because she's just not acting right and he did blood work thinking it was her kidneys and maybe, just maybe her pancreas. Her amylase was off the chart but her kidney function was OK! Don't know why though...I think it's mighty strange that this happened since she came off of the s/d food, but I haven't brought that up with the vet yet. I guess it really doesn't matter now. :roll:

poor Brie, are you sure its pancreatitis? Wylie went thru something similar last year, and they suspected pancreatitis, the test was very expensive and they ha dto send it out and it would take 3 days to get back,to her pancreas was enlarged and her duodnum, the thing that food goes thru to the stomach. Because of this food wasnt getting into her stomach to digest. so they started treatment like it was pancreatitis, which is no food and she was on intravenous fluids at teh vet for 2 days. Well the test came back negative and she slowly got bettter.

pancreattitis is suually triggered by getting into garbage and eating very high fatty foods.

 

Her amylase was off the chart...too high to even be read by the analyzer. That and the fact she was tender in the abdomen is how he diagnosed her. I'm taking her back tomorrow for a recheck (if they can draw some blood now that she feels better lol). She hasn't been vomiting at all, but did have diarreah that I thought was from the food change from the s/d stuff. So she didn't need IV fluids. She has only eaten chopped boiled chicken breasts since Monday and I know she's hungry. But she seems alot perkier. She's also been on antibiotics that we have to poke down her throat since she can't have any other food. That hasn't been fun at all.

I am still wondering what triggered it. She was on s/d food and started acting like she didn't feel well so I took her to the vet on Thursday. Her kidney recheck x-ray was still positive so we took her off of the s/d food and I put her on Natural Balance meat roll with a little dry mixed in. That meatroll only has a little fat so that can't be it. By Monday she was really pitiful so I took her back and her ran the blood test thinking it was her kidney function. But that's all fine. I called the Hill's food people and he told me they've never had a report of pancreatitis connected to the s/d food. But it does seem strange.

I took Brie back yesterday and her amylase is down to almost normal range!! I can really tell she feels better. I'm still feeding her boiled chicken but I added some rice and upped the amount so I think she's happier now that she gets some food. Since she wasn't vomiting, all I have to go on is how she acts. :?
