Brushing cats....and Richie's first experience

How many of you have cats that loved to be brushed?
5 out of my 7 love it just as much as they love getting treats.
I was brushing everyone the other night and decided to see how Richie would react since I had never attempted brushing him before. I snuck up behind him with the brush and pulled it across his back...he lifted his rump :m10: like he does when I pet him and then turned his head and saw the brush. He looked a bit stunned and unsure of the brush but I continued brushing and he tolerated it well...even seemed to really enjoy it although he continued peeking back to look at the brush the entire time. I was just suprised at how well he was since he was never brushed before in his life. Very happy about it since he does tend to leave little white hairs all over me when I pick him up.
I don't brush Chieve or Bella...they seem to feel uncomfortable when I've tried almost as if it hurts them and besides they both have very short, somewhat fine hair and seem to shed very little... whenever I've brushed them there was never much hair coming out into the brush. I imagine they feel the brush on their skin more where the other cats with thicker fur don't.
When I brush Rhiannon she must lick my hand profusively the entire time..she nibbles sometimes too. Once I'm finished she will follow me all over the house crying as if she's saying "Brush me, brush me more!". LOL.
Bean seems to get easily overstimulated with the brush and if he's standing he drops his back legs as if they've become numb...then he wiggles away and comes back for more over and over again.
Hoggle is so little and light that when I brush him his entire body moves with the brush from wherever he is laying. I could move him several feet across the floor while he's laying down just by brushing him. He loves it so much that he rolls around back and forth while I try to brush which makes it very difficult for me.
Tiddy cries in excitement :m33: when he sees me with the brush and comes running. He's easiest to brush because he just stands there...he likes his head brushed the most.

Most of the cats gather into a pile when I pull the brush out. They all want to be first. Sometimes I have to push them away from the one I'm currently brushing because the others will push each other around to get close to the brush......"It my turn!", "No, Its mine!". :0009:
This has gone on for years but I was just thinking about how funny it really is the other day and thought it was worth posting about.

Anyone else have kitty brushing stories?

LOL. I enjoyed reading your post, Nern. That was pretty funny. As for my Romeo and Juliet, they very much enjoy being brushed. Like your cats they too have "odd brush behavior." Romeo wants to play with the brush and Juliet can't sit still and has to purr and walk around in a circle. Cats are so funny.

LOL I'd love to see that nern! Booger won't let me brush her. She thinks the brush is a toy and attacks it everytime I go near her with it.

Kitty sometimes does the same as Juliet - purr and walk in circles. Other times, she just lies there and purrs and lets me brush her. She took to brushing very well - she was a stray kitten. I think she just loves the attention and feeling "pretty" afterwards :)

Lol Nern, I would love to see your house at brush time

Kyrre has a long history with the brush. From day one he would attack it whenever I tried to brush him, so I pretty much gave up on it. (Kyrre has a thing with biting things of metal :| ) But when I took him to the vet he had to be sedated because of all the matted hear. It was so bad that it couldn't be shaved off, they had to brush it out.
I knew I had to find a way to brush him, so i started diciplining him whenever he tried to play with the brush. And it worked very well. As soon as he realized he wasn't allowed to play with the brush, he actually started enjoying it. And now he will lay in my lap flat out while I brush him and clip of little lumps of hear (no matter how often I brush Kyrre, he ALWAYS gets these little lumps in his "armpits")

Bente, I'm glad that Kyrre learned to enjoy his brushings. It's near impossible to keep hair clumps from forming on long hair cats...and they really do become uncomfortable and hurt them. The one long hair cat I had would never tolorate me brushing her but as soon as a clump would form, I would try to shave it off. She would lie on my lap and let me work on it a little at a time with a safty razor(quick little short strokes). If shaving the clump got too uncomfortable (from the short/quick pulling of the razor)...she would hop off my lap. Then she'd come back for more a few min later and lie in my lap in a position for me to be able to access/treat her. I sware, she knew what I was doing for her. Cats are so much more intelligent that folks give them credit for.

Booger just attacks the brush as soon as she see's it in my hand. Just for giggles, when she was eating earlier today, I snuck up behind her and began brushing her. She thought it was my hand/fingers/nails...she loves it when I scratch her...and she didn't know the difference. Then later on, she strolled up to me and I picked up the brush, she attacked it LOL

Well, brushing her isn't really an issue since she's a short hair but she is sheading alot lately with spring comming on and her losing her winter coat.

    Hehehehehe--very funny post nern!

Sabrina likes to be brushed and will fall out and roll around and try to nibble and lick my hand. The last time I brushed her, I accidently poked her in the eye  because she squirms so.

Copper hates to be brushed. He acts offended. You know--he scrunches up his back and lays his ears back and will stalk off grumbling all the way. Which is really funny because I raised him from a baby and he was washed in the sink and dried and then brushed at a very young age--and didn't mind then. I guess he's big enough to fight back now!

Tiddy used to get mats in his arm pits too. I don't know why but I have'nt noticed any mats at all on him in some time now which is great because he hated me trying to brush his arm pits.

It'll be so much fun to watch the kitties getting groomed on video Nern. :D Rene and Monty love getting groomed. Monty will walk in circles and twitch his tail excitedly whereas Rene will intercept the grooming for herself. Pumpkin and Milo do not like to be groomed. That's probably why they puke up furballs or do the furball butt scoop. :x I have to sneak up on them when they are sleeping and attempt to groom them. 8)

What does this Zoom groom look like?? Maybe I can find it in Norwegian pet stores... Kyrre could sure use something different than the comb I'm using now... :p

lol, my kitty loves being brushed and petted, especially the zoom groom! lol, when she gets brushed and petted, if you do it right, she will go totally limp! its so funny! the only bad part is that she just totally relaxes and so she drools all over you. that's nasty. but she just loves, and if you stop she'll nip at your hand until you start again, lol.
