Last Friday I discovered two bunnies nesting in a planter in our back yard,
while I was getting ready to plant some flowers. Their eyes were open...so cute.

The next day, we noticed there were five bunnies, not two.

Here is a picture on one of them

Socks and Mittens are allowed to go outside during the day so I wanted to make sure they stayed inside until the bunnies were gone.

So, today I checked the nest area twice and there were no bunnies. Good, they were gone.

I decided to let Socks and Mittens out thinking they would relax on the patio because of the heat, but I was wrong.

Mittens went out under our Spirea bush and suddenly I heard a squeal and a small bunny ran out with Mittens chasing after it. Darn.

The mother bunny ran out of nowhere trying to scare Mittens off. I slowly walked towards Mittens talking quietly & had almost nabbed her when little bunny and Mittens darted off a short distance farther.

Meanwhile the excited mother bunny ran across the yard again.

I kept talking softly to Mittens and finally was able to snatch her up and carry her into the house (I had already scarfed up Socks and shoved her inside when all of this started to happen).

I hope little bunny is okay. I guess my kitties will be indoor kitties a little longer. Just thought I would share this story with you.

Awww, how cute! Great job saving the bunnies! Milo would devour the entire family in minutes.

I'm glad you were outside to catch Mittens in the act. Hopefully the bunnies will be on their way soon.

I'm surprised the mom rabbit came out and got involved. It's actually kind of cute - mom's protecting her children.

When I got home from work last night, I saw mommy bunny down in the yard about where the baby bunny ran to earlier. I guess she was tending to him. She moved away when she saw the headlights from my car. Hopefully she has moved her babies farther from the house.

My kitties are still now allowed outside (they're driving me nuts). :m13:
