A friend of mine is in the process of sewing me a cover for my cage,,, We went and picked out the fabric today and I chose a medium grey, light weight fabric... I made sure that it would breathe well and we are making it a little larger than the cage to allow sufficient airflow....
Is this a good idea? Or is it going to be way too dark and the bird m ight fall off of its pearch? BEcause in the wild im sure they always had the moon light etc... thanks.,..

When it is dark at night they sleep better and get a more relaxing sleep as there aren't many distractions. They shouldn't fall off of the perch since if they are sleeping on a perch now it would be the same since their eyes are shut.

I use a small blanket that my grandmother made me when I was little.

I don't think she'll fall off the perch. If you think about it, in the wild it gets very dark.
