Hi everyone i am very confused.
I need some advice. My sister has a 8year old rottweiler cross and she wanted to have him castrated as he is very hyper plus she has an intact westie which she is breeding when she is old enough,
Well the vet has told her not to have him castrated as this will make him worse even may make him aggressive because of the way he goes on. Or it could calm him down and he said its not a risk she really wants to take with her having 2 kids.

I have never heard of any dog turning agressive from being castrated as i thought once the hormone is out of his body he calms down anyway.
Also if it can turn a dog aggressive why do vets reccomend spaying/neutering to help calm dogs behaviour down

Any help would be great so i can pass it onto my sister.

WOW. I've never heard of that before..... I'd say neuter him anyway and seek out a new vet!

Thanks for that link Dukesdad it was very useful.

Well i have told my sister to get him neutered anyway and to find a new vet, Because if he was right then there would be alot of dogs that are still intact running around, Plus they could also say the same about the bitches too.

I know if they are really aggressive dogs the chances of neutering calming them down is slim, But with max he is only a little bouncy and hyper.
I personally believe the way he is, Is down to my sister as he lives outside and when he does come indoors he goes crazy, Which i am not suprised especially when he see's the children .

Thanks for all your help i will pass it on.

    Mike
