Just got a dalmation puppy but the cat is so scared of him. The can't won't come in the house unless I let him in. He runs away from the dog if he sees him. The dog is not bothered by the cat at all and is generally uninterested in him.

If the cat comes in the same room as the dog he will hiss or attack the dog if he is walking past or playing (even when he is ignoring the cat). Other times the cat will just try and hide.

When the cat walks around the house is is connstantly looking for the dog, making sure he is not near him, with a frightened look on his face.

I don't want to upset the cat. What can we do? :?

Sorry lots of it is redundant. You need lots of patience and time to get them to accept each other. I wonder how Kyles101 got her dog Puma and cats Pepe and Phoebe to get along. You might want to PM her for advice.

    Thanks for the links.

introduction was as adviced by our vet.

Basically we first let each of them get used to the smell of the other by putting opposite blankets around their feeding areas. We then let the cat come in to the adjacent room to the dog and seeing we had him wiithout him being in the same room as the cat. We let the cat come into the room with the dog when he feels comfortable and we never leave them alone but we have tried to let them get on with it if the cat does come in the same room. The vet said that the cat would be the boss and would sort out the dog but it just ain't happening as he is so scared. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well if anyone else has any other tips please share them with us.

    Thanks :?

    Hello,

We were in the same position too! We have 2 cats and now a dalmation puppy! The puppy wants to play with the cats and the cats are not interested! My one black and white cat is still afraid of the puppy as the pup is hyper and cat is laid back. Now the other one is our Diva cat who, will sort out the pup in a heartbeat but the pup thinks when the cat swipes at her it means she wants to play!! This is the funniest moments but also scary as the dog yelps when she is clawed!

Anyway, what your vet said was spot on as this is what happened between our cats and dog! Our cats stayed hidden for about 3 days when the dog was first introduced into the house. l was upset by this but evidentually the cats slowly started coming around. It will take some time especially if the cat has been in the house longer. Give the cat extra special attention too!

    Good luck!
