My cat had a complete blood work up done 3 weeks ago and I was told his white blood cell count was high, the vet wanted to put him on an anti-biotic 2 x's a day for 2 weeks. She rechecked him and said that his white blood cell count did go dwon from 33,000 to 25,000 but she wants it lower. I have to refill his prescription and give him it for another 2 weeks. What the heck do you think is the cause of this high blood count? An infection? Something bad?? The vet never said.....I will ask again today-

well...i guess the first question is why did your kitty have a complete blood work up? and has he been acting differently? how old is your kitty? do you have any other animals??

can't always tell exactly what kind of infection is bringing up the blood count but I'd personally start with being in a urine sample and see if they can detect anything there. What kind of antibiotic was prescribed?

My kitty is 2 yrs old, he is a diabetic. I went to the vet yesturdya to pick up the refill of anti biotic (Clavamox) and asked her about the high white blood cell count. She said its good the numbers dropped. If they didn't she would be very concerned (maybe bone marrow?). He is acting OK, he was originally vomiting every few days or so (when we broght him to have blood work for his diabetes I told the doctor about it--which led to the white cell count etc etc...she did Xrays and urine too). She wants to re-check him in about 2 weeks to see his numbers again. She said cats with diabetes can get an inflammed pancrease and causes the white cells to go up--we'll see. My poor baby! Seems like the poor fella can't catch a break. He's been poked and pinned for over a year now--aww....Say a prayer will ya? Thanks!!! :)

Are you sure he's not ingested poisonous house plants? Booger was vomiting a couple of times over a period of about a week and it turned out to be that she had gotten into my hanging philodendryn (sp?). I only realised it because I saw some stalks in her vomit. I didn't realise she could jump that far up !! It caused her to vomit and loss of appetite as well. Luckily, that's all and she's fine now.

I sure hope your baby will be ok.
