Cat turned mean...

Ok, first off, I'm new, I LOVE CATS.
    Here goes.

I had 2 cats both females. They got along. One had to be put down due to a bladder infection. So it was just me and Zoe for about 6 months. Then my girlfriend at the time got a Munchkin cat and started bringing it over to see how Zoe would react because I thought about getting another cat(friend) for her. Anyway, they hit it off. So about another 6 months later I got 2 little kittens they are brothers. NOW, I expected some possible initial whatever, but it's been now like 4-5 months and when I even go to pet Zoe she is still like angry at me she growls a lot and bites. And it's very frustrating because she is very unpleasant all the time now. She used to sleep with me each night and now she goes off and sleeps on her own. It has nothing to do with the other kittens because they don't sleep with me often so that Zoe knows I am not trying to push her like out of the picture since I feared that might be the problem.

Does anyone have any advice about what I can do, and why she seemed to get along with the munchkin cat but hates these 2?

    thanks

Cats are like people. They tend to like some and detest others. My Pumpkin viewed Milo and Vene as threats when they first showed up as 2 month old kittens and she did not act herself. It took a couple of years and she finally accepted Milo but not Vene. Pumpkin will leave the room whenever Vene (RIP) is there with her.

I agree with Vene. Cats have personalities and some get along better with some and not others. Usually it is easier to introduce kittens to a cat than an adult cat to another adult cat, but I guess you never know.

Hopefully in time they will start to get along together.

We took in my daughter's adult cat and my one cat was willing to get along with him, but my other cat wouldn't accept him at all. Fortunately we found my daughter's cat a good home so he could be happy. The home he went to had another cat and they get along fine.

I don't know what to advise except maybe try to give Zoe extra attention so she doesn't feel jealeous. I hope things work out for you.

I'd first get the cat a checkup cause their might be a physical reason explaining the meanness.

And another question - why put a cat to sleep with a bladder infection? Won't antiobiotics work on that?

Oh!, trust me. I tried antibiotics. I did not want to put her down. I loved her to death. The antibiotics didn't work and she was in pain everytime she peed, it was awful. It became much more then a bladder infection she was going all the time and it was nothing but blood. I just don't remember exactly what it was, this was over a year and a half ago now.

As for Zoe I'm going to try and give her extra attention and see if that helps.
Also she is de-clawed on the front and the new ones aren't could that be one of the reasons.[/quote]

I'm sorry about the kitty...I've been through some bladder issues with my dog and I know how hard it is.

I'm very anti-declaw so please don't get me started [-X

I have one declawed cat (done by her previous owner) who does have a 'tude but it didn't develop overnight like that so I would doubt that that would be this issue regarding the other cats (Tilly is mean to one of my other cats but she's okay with another).

I still think you might want to get her a physical exam done to rule out any health issues. Another alternative to try is Bach's Rescue Remedy as it does have a calming affect and is natural ingredients (no chemicals). But...it doesn't work on every animal, yet it might be worse a try. Then when she starts to relax xome start to wean her off it. Another method is a Feliway diffuser but you'd need one for every room the cat frequents - you can get them through Fosters and Smith

did you separate the cats at first..or just throw the kittens in ....i have a 5yr old fmle and 2 kittens (just like yours brothers) they have been quarentined in the bathroom for about a month....and my cat is very interested in them..but still hisses...have not seen her hit them yet..but once she got used to the smell of them on me...she is okay with me..no more hitting or biting me.
