Cats and Heat what to do?

Discussion in 'Cats - all breeds / types' started by SebastionNRooneysMom, Jul 13, 2005.

  1. Ok our new house does not have central air. And we don't have our window air conditioners just yet (we're getting 3 for $100 from our realater). And so we just have a few fans and it doesent really help :( . The kittens seem to get really hot i mean when i pick them up they are ALOT hotter then I have ever felt them. I have been running cool water over them not COLD but cool and they seem to enjoy it especially Rooney who shuts his eyes. Im just wondering if thats ok to do? I just don't want them to be uncomfortable and I know I am I have been running cool water over my OWN head lol its so hot! Also until we get the new air conditioners if there any other way to keep them cool or if the sink and cool water ok?

I dont know about cost but maybe you could get one of those small portable swamp coolers.

I dont know about up in Ohio, but here at Target they sell those First Aid cold pack things for $1. I send em to my brother-in-law in Iraq to stick in his jacket to keep cool. Also you could try freezing a few good sized water bottles and place them in the bathtub and let the kitties lay next to them to stay cool. Hope that helps!

I had this problem before when I brought my kitten home. What I was told was to put some ice cubes in their water to cool down the water. Wet their ears and paws with cool water, rub them down with a cold wash cloth and if they let you, maybe give them a cool water bath. Dont have to give them a full bath, just bathe them in cool water.

Its fine to do as long as its not too cold that it will shock them rather than help cool them down.

  5. Thanks for the advice everyone :) we just got the Air Conditioners put in we did'nt know we were getting them until my sister showed up with them so the house is alot cooler and the cats seem to be feeling alot better.
