Cats and Roses...Is it just Booger?

Booger goes absolutely WILD over roses. She wants to attack and eat them. Hubby would often bring me a single beautiful rose which I would set on my desk in a vase. One day, Booger pranced across my desk and discovered a rose. She immediately wanted it. Ever since, she just goes wild when she knows there's a rose in the house.

This past spring, I planted a Tropicana Corel rose bush in my yard and it took off beautifully. This bush is known for producing long stemmed blossems. I cut one tonight so that I could have it on my desk. I was careful to not let Booger see me bring it in the house. I snuck it in and was at the kitchen sink to trim leaves and thorns from it and I guess Booger smelled the scent. She jumped up on the counter and attacked me for it! I managed to wrestle it away from her but not untill she broke the rose off the stem and a few petals fell away. She jumped down from the counter and quickly ate the fallen petals.

Has anyone else ever noticed this attraction of cats to roses? I just can't have a rose in the house without Booger going nuts wanting to devour it.

Lol's Cassie! It's not uncommon for them to go bonkers over flowers, at least, in my household. The first cat we ever had loved to drag any flowers all over our house. One time I put the vase on top of the refrigerator thinking he won't reach and he yanked the whole thing overboard. Luckily, he didn't get hurt. Here's a pic of Rene and Milo going bonkers over the flowers. This was before I understood that some plants can be toxic to them. I think the roses are safe. It's funny that Milo only attacks indoor flowers. When he's in our yard, he couldn't care less what's out there. I'd love to see pics of Booger and the rose bush or the single stem rose!

Milo's hey I'm gonna get ya look:

 Too funny. I'm glad rose petals are non-toxic. My kitties have no interest in flowers but a couple of years ago I planted this small ornamental grass plant and my kitties kept eating it down to a nub and the plant disappeared.

Booger coming into the kitchen after the rose reminds me that when I'm baking cookies or something, Mittens is right there hanging out near me in the kitchen. I keep saying that she must have been a baker in her past life. (She probably just likes the smell of the butter. :) )
