Cats - eating/craving fruit!!! Will it hurt them?

Hi gang, I saw your discussion from July 30th on cats that eat, rather dont eat fruits and veggies. I was wondering if any of you know if eating fruit will hurt them? My Mickey, I call him my "rotten little albino kitty from a tennessee trailer park", he eats fruit whenever he can get it. He flips over peaches, strawberries, and last night I found out he's just as crazy for pineapple.

What should I do? :?

Vene (RIP-hit by a car) used to eat cantaloups as I cut them up. I don't see how fruit treats can hurt them as long as they are taken in moderation. I'd be wary of acidic fruits like strawberries and pineapple. I suppose it can go right through the system if eaten too much. Is Mickey really albino or is his fur all white?

Yup, I was worried about the acidic fruits too, but Mickey has a nose like a bloodhound and can smell the strawberries and pineapple if you have it out in the kitchen...his favorite room...he literally claws at your hand to get a piece! He's too weird!!! He doesn't like mellon or grapes. He's an all white, long hair alley cat with pink/orange eyes! His mom was all white short hair with pink eyes. Don't know about his dad. I picked him out of the litter 'cause he was sooo tiny with enormous big ears like Dumbo. He's grown into his ears now. He loves boxes and small places to hide! I told my daughter to download some of his pictures from her camera...filled with pictures of Mickey and Moses (the all black kitty)
so I can post them for you guys...he's soooo spoiled! :m27:

*I think what I'll do is call the vet to ask about his fruit obsession..don't want to upset his little system...he is just too weird! :m34:

I've never heard of a cat being so fond of fruit. LOL. I imagine as long as he only gets these things in moderation on ocassion its probably fine. Too much might cause digestive upset. Can't wait to see pictures!

If anyone is interested: This is a small passage from the handbook under food. It's from www.paw-rescue.org

If you want to feed kitty human food, make sure it is healthy for him or her and make it a treat rather than a substitute for manufactured or home prepared feline food. Human tuna does not contain all the nutrients kitty needs so avoid giving that as a meal. A stray piece that happens to fall kitty's way is acceptable. Give kitty fresh fruit or fresh vegetables as a treat. Many of us have the image of a kitty drinking from a saucer of milk. Some cats may tolerate milk, but yogurt and lactaid milk are better choices especially if kitty is on antibiotics (keeps the intestinal flora working in harmony). Bones of any kind should never be given to your cat. Some foods, including turkey, can cause diarrhea.

I've definitely never heard of a kitty flipping over fruit, but then again my Vianne suprised me the other day when she expressed a crazy new interest in green beans....she ate 3 of them! I couldn't believe it :shock: I knew she liked grilled chicken, but the beans made me laugh :mrgreen:
