Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I need some help tonight quickly as possible. My next door neighbor has a spinger spaniel puppy, tied up to a plastic barrel with very little bedding and it is going to be o degrees tonight. This puppy has no body fat and I am worried that it will freeze. I have had a confrontation with these neighbors with another dog they possessed and he now belongs to me. I am at a loss about what to do about it. I have no where to keep him inside. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Susan

Wow, that's a tricky situation. If I were you I would call the SPCA on these people! However if you don't have an organization like that in your area I don't know what to do. Do you have access to their yard? Are you able to take the dog or does he have to stay there? Maybe you could keep him in your garage, at least he would be sheltered from the cold a bit that way. Or have a friend that could keep him overnight? Or keep him in your bathroom? Any thing would better than the cold or having him freeze to death out there. That breaks my heart, I've never even experienced anything that cold myself.

I know they have thermal heat pads for dogs, like their body heat keeps it warm, same thing with thermal blankets. Even pads that you could heat up but of course those wouldn't last all night. I would give him as much bedding and blankets as possible or even put some sweaters on him if you could.

Call the Humane Society. That's so wrong!!

I would definetely call the humane society! If you don't have any luck with them...I would at the least sneak over there and put a bunch of bedding in with that puppy. Snatching it could potentially get you in trouble depending on the owners.

I would call the Human Society too. I honestly don't get people that would do that to their dogs. I mean come on, how much do a few blankets at the least cost?

Calling the humane society is a great idea but by the time they are able to get out to the dog it may be to late. I would suggest talking to the neighbors and let them know of the dangers of keeping the dog outside and of your intentions of calling the authorities. I would offer suggestions such as the possibility of them bringing the dog indoors until the temperatures are safe or at least housing the dog in a garage or providing a thermal dog blanket. If they do not seem like they intend to make any changes then if at all possible I would offer to take the dog in temporarily.
