I was just reading the bottle on my water conditioner and I noticed that it removes chlorine... Will this kill all the ammonia that I add in.. because if i dont add this stuff then the chlorine kills the bacteria and if I do add it it kills the amonia.. could someone please explain this to me

The ammonia is not alive so you can't kill it, but yes, chlorine will kill the bacteria so you need to use a dechlorinator.

There are some products that do remove ammonia (not kill it) and there are some that convert it to a less toxic form. You should definitely avoid anything that actually removes it (you'd be removing the food for your bacteria) but the stuff that converts it should be fine (may give you false ammonia readings though).

Hi drab911, Try looking at the Kordon products, Novaqua and Amquel or Amquel + (Amquel plus). I use both Novaqua and Amquel or Amquel+ religously when doing my water changes and never had a problem (including harming the bacterial filter) with either of them.
