Okey, I was at the petstore yesterday and saw this completely yellow tiny fish called "___ cichlid"could anyone help me out if they know the name? they were about the same size as the younger guppies except a little taller as in ^ and a little shorter as in <>

EDIT: if anyone knows their name for sure might you be able to tell me if i could put them in a 30 gallon and if so how many?

Those are yellow labs, or as my lfs like to call them "electric yellows". I believe they get to about 6" long and are one of the more peaceful mbuna species. Chelle actually raises them so I'm sure she'd know if you could have some in a thirty gallon.

You sure are getting a good case of multiple tank syndrome, aren't you :D Just like me

Indeed I am, ive told lots of people that keeping fish isnt a hobby, its an addiction! and Lellow Lab seems very familiar (apart from the fact that its a breed of dog)

Those are Labidochromis caeruleus (aka yellow lab, electric yellow, Lions Cove cichlid). They're an African cichlid from Lake Malawi. They get about 3" - 4" and tend to be not quite as aggressive as most africans. In a 30 gallon, assuming you have good filtration and lots of caves, you could probably fit 3 maybe 4 since slight overstocking helps decrease aggression. Unless you want lots of little yellow labs, I recommend getting only females because in my experience they breed very easily. Otherwise, one male and the rest female (in that size tank 2 males wouldn't be a good idea). However, sexing can be difficult since the only difference is males tend to have a little more black than females but it's not always a huge difference (especially when they're young).

Someone on another forum I was reading a long time ago had a signature that said something like "Hobbies this addicting and expensive usually are not legal; I keep expecting the police to knock on my door and take my skimmer away" I can't remember the exact words but I think it's funny and true
