    Hi,
My sister has a hand raised cockatoo and for some reason he has decided that he dislikes me. I have been spending a bit more time over there lately and he seems to be improving but he still edges over (while playing with a toy) all innocent and then either bites me or runs at me and hits me with a closed beak. Has anyone got any ideas on how to make things easier when I visit my sister? I don't want to have to be onguard around him all the time and am supposed to be babysitting him while she goes on hols in a couple of months time. Perhaps some sort of bribery?

    I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks

    Mel.

Cockatoos usually prefer 1 person and will bond with them but this is not always the case.

What you could try is find out what his favourite treat is and always have some near you when you talk to him give him the treat.
If he pushes you for more say no and ignore him, If he bites you say no in a sharp voice they soon learn not to bite you.

The more time you spend with him the quicker he will start to respond to you.

Treats and playtime are always a great training tool.

    Thanks,
That's what we are kind of working on we have noticed that he responds more to toys than treats but thanks for the advice.

I know I promised photos of my baby cockatiels but I'm unsure how to post then if you can let me know I will put them on for all to see.
