Hey everyone... Will I just found out that my landlord upstairs also has a freshwater fish tank.. it used to be flourishing.. however now he only has one fish and he hasnt been takign the best care of the tank... He is suppost to have quite a bit of algey however the fish is still living.. would this be safe to get a little bit of gravel from to put in my tank to speed up the cycling process or is it too much risk of problems? I am pretty sure that there are no disease though I really cant say for sure...
any suggestions would be appriciated! Thanks!

You could probably get some safely, but the amount of good bacteria wouldn't really be worthwhile.
