Crating question for puppy Westy

We have a new Westy puppy. We are using the crate method. My question is that I am afraid I might be crating him too much. We play with him about 6 times a day for about 30 minutes. We walk him outside very regular for potty. When we have work to be done in the house we put him in the crate. Also when we leave for work as well. Am I crating him too much till he is potty trained? We never use the crate in a negative fashion.

    TIA

Depending on age as long as he's not crated for long periods of time in between breaks it's not to much IMO... THe less chance there is of Accidents or to eat something of yours the better... Better NOT to start the habbit than break it you know... Once the pup gets older it will be easier to keep him/her out of the crate for longer periods. Right now too sleeping is still a HUGE pasttime for growth. Make sure though once shots are all done and the series given...you start socializing and possibly enroll in puppy OB classes. It's VERY beneficial for puppy and owner bonding and later training.

I think if you can't keep your eye on them 100% they should be on a leash by your side or in their kennel.
