=D> I have a siamese cat with diabetes. I amgiving her daily injections of insulin, and giving her a special food for diabetic cats. Her poor little back legs are weak ,and she walks on her back hocks. Does anyone know if in time with medication and proper diet, they can regain strength in their legs? Nano

Hi Nano and welcome to the forums! I believe that once the diabetes are under control with insulin treatment she should regain some strength in her legs. I have heard this before, I don't know for sure (or even where I heard this...). I did a quick search of the internet and couldn't find a definitive answer. You should probably ask your vet if no one else pipes up here.

Anyway, I hope she gets better soon. What's her name? We would love to see a picture, if you have one.

hi Halaroo! Thank you very much for your reply on diabetic cats. My cat's name is Tiffany, and she is 10 yrs. old. It makes me want to cry to see her like this, kinda scarey. I wish I had a way to show a pic. of her, but I don't have the right camera to do it with.Sorry, I'll have to get one! She is a seal-point siamese, really a sweet cat. How many cats do you have? I've got 3;Boo,Tiffany,and Tigger. Nano

Nano, I had a siamese cat that was diagnosed at 8 with diabetes, for 3 yearts he was on pill insulin, then went to shots, he lived until 15. Iwish I could help on the legs issue, maybe you can try and do a search. my cat was pretty healthy otherwise

Hi. I'm sorry about your kitty. :( I hope she feels better soon. Keep in mind that it's okay to call your vet office and ask them as many questions as you want. That's why they are there. They should also know how your kitty is doing. If I had a diabetic cat, I think I would be touching base with the vet office pretty often. Especially if she was having a difficult period. Give them a call and see what they have to say. I wish her all the best.

Hi, I have a diabetic kitty too. He is only 2 years old and his name is Boo. I sure hopr your kitty gets well soon. I don't know much about why he is walking on his back paws like that. From what I heard if it just started, it may be that his blood sugar is too low. The vet told me-that is a sign of low blood sugar. If your cat has been like this before the insulin, then I don't know....Definitly, please--call your vet. Again, I hope all is well, and your sugar kitty is now added to my prayer list! :) Hope she gets well soon!! Good luck!

Hi to Iluvmykittys! Thank-you for adding Tiffany to your prayer list, I'll add your Boo to mine. I have a Boo, too. She is a 12 year old part persian,a real lover, and very social. Tiffany seems to be doing some better. I have talked to the vet's office about the weakness in her back legs and also asked about the sticky urine(from the glucose,I think) in the litter box, and those things in time may get better. They are just great with her. They have called to check on her to see how she is doing and are happy to answer any questions, and believe me I always have quite a few!I am so sorry to hear about your cat , so young and having diabetes. But like with people, it can happen at any age I guess. Is Boo on shots or pill form? Nano
