As of today, the news said at least 100 dogs have been killed by eating Diamond dog food. I felt so sad for those doggies and their owners... Now, when i think of it, my dog and I could have been one of them. When I acquired Chobby from the breeder, I asked for the breeder's recommendation for food. Her fist choice was Diamond. Since I never heard of Diamond nor saw it in the pet store that I normally went, I chose not to listen to her. Can't imagine how my life would be if Chobby passed away in that kind of pain...

This could happen to anyone. Be an informed owner!

It's big news here b/c that plant is right near Columbia. I guess this is another reason not to feed dogs corn.

My sister feeds some of her dogs and her cats Diamond. We were all on vacation at our parents' house when the news came. They were frantically calling the pet sitter and having them throw out food and buy a new brand. All of her dogs and cats are fine.

I have always been wary of those "designer brand" dog and cat foods. While they may be nutritious, they have some weird ingrediants. And my philosophy has always been, If I can't pronounce it or know what it is, stay away from it.

I understand the "scientific" terms for most ingrediants, and yes theirs fillers and "herbal" ingrediants in everything, but I still have a wierd feeling about those dog foods always have and thats why I never fed them or reccommended them.

Samsintentions, what do you feed your dogs? Just curious. I tried feeding my dog cooked chicken/pork/beef with vegetables at times, but they are mostly on the premium dry dog food. I do feel more comfortable feeding what I make for them as well.

Diamond Brand is what I was feeding Duncan when he got sick and had the allergic reactions.
How horrible for those that lost pets due to a contamination.

Mine are actually on a food I don't like to feed, but they only eat this brand, and are doing quite well on it. I feed them Pedigree Large Breed Formula.

    Is Duncan doing fine now?

Duncan is doing very well thanks. He did not lose his fur as the vet thought he would and all the fur around his eyes and paws grew back fine. He still paws his eyes once in awhile but I think it is a normal thing. He and Dowser are still the street kings.

Was it the corn that caused the problem? Since I feed raw, I didn't pay much attention.

Yes, I thought so. Some kind of deadly fongus grew on the corn.

DMikeM, Duncan and Dowser are very handsome. My two paw their eyes or rub their face against my bed everyday, especially in the morning as if they were washing their face. :)

It was aflatoxin growing on the corn.

Thats right, aflatoxin is a very dangerous fungus. Its highly toxious and poisonous to animals as well as people. it usually grows in corn and anyother shuck wrapped veggie. It likes the dampness and usually gorws durninga very wet period followed by a long dry spell.

Yeah, if I wake Ranger up, he likes to rub his face on my shirt. It's cute, but i'm pretty sure he's rubbing his sleep on me, lol.
