Does anyone know of a good method to discipline my deaf 4 month old kitten..i tried stomping the floor..and using a squirt bottle..but he likes water..and i am at my wits end..his brother is fine bc all i have to do is clap and he stops whatever he is doing..any suggestions would be appreciated.

    rcrgal...

can you give some examples of what he is doing wrong?

    has he been neutered yet?

max was a bad kitty for months... :m3: from three to seven months. he started settling down about seven months. but...he would bite, scratch, knock things over, grab food, try to attack me...

but never in a mean way...he was just totally rambunctious and couldnt control himself very well...

i put him in time out repeatedly...throughout the day sometimes...in my bedroom for about fifteen min to a half hour at a time, until he settled down. sometimes he immediately reengaged...and he would go right back to time out. :m14: :m13:

water helped...but he would just turn his head until the squirting was over...he loves water too. :0011:

Your might try putting him in a short time-out in a quite room and make sure he knows why, what I mean is like immediatly after he does it Id try a hand motion before putting him in that you'd like to use for getting the point across later.

air can....like you would use to clean your computer. Just a small tiny squirt though - not full force. That would probably get his attention.

I'd like to know what he's doing to that would require discipline. Kittens will be kittens. Aren't they fun

I wonder if EternalFlame's having the same problem?

i am only really having an issue w/ him chewing wires..that seems to be his main interest..i know kittens are rambuncious and luv to play..but i am worried bout him getting electrocuted...everything else he does is fine..i have been picking him up and shaking my finger at him when he does it..but then he will go right bk to it second i put him down..his brother is not interested in wires at all...

He is 4months old and has not yet been nuetered.

    Taken from Chessmind's old post:
You could also try double-sided sticky tapes. It's a good deterent. My Vene(RIP) used to destroy our electrical cords. We had to replace 2 phone cords and 1 computer speaker.

did i hear my name? *giggles and slides in*

Razberry can hear fine remember lol it's his peepers that dont work.

He's actually a well behaved little kitten--- key word being kitten. There are some things u can't really teach them not to do at this age... It would be like trying to teach them not to run around. ;)

There are places he goes where he's not supposed to, i tell him NO, take him away from the area in question if he does not alter course (usually just turn him aorund as not to disorient him) and tell him good boy when he goes in the desired direction away from the no no zone.

What helps is he knows the word NO. What doesnt help is that he cant really SEE what the NO is for... so it's gonna take some time to associate him with different stimuli in the NO areas. i'm not expecting him to be an angel kitten over night. i knew it would prove a challenge for training before i got him. But i was up for it. :)

Just have ALOT of paitence. Watch him like a hawk so when he does something bad u can deter it immediately. Unlike other kittens, we have to be extra diligent with whats good and bad with them.

But here is what is really important. You must spend time catching your kitten in GOOD behavior so that you can reward that. If you spend time letting the kitten know what you want, that behavior will most likely be repeated. To disrupt behaviors, I would suggest using toys and try to get your kitten doing something else.

    good luck! :y_the_best:

well i'll tell ya...it was almost as if max was deaf...and still is.

NO!!! is just not a word in his vocabulary. he doesnt even respond to it. he is into everything...the refrigerator....on the stove, the food, my papers, pens, water bottle, tv changers, mikey, rugs and strings on rugs, telephones, printer, kitty litter rug (he plays under the rug that is under the kitty litter, thus getting all the litter on my carpet rather than the rug WHERE ITS SUPPOSED TO GO!!!! :m3: ) , mouse in the water bowl, mouse in the coffee cup, mouse in my tapioca pudding  , and the list goes on......and on.....and on.....

like eternal flames says...it takes patience. i just laugh...take him to time out or redirect him. he is really quite hysterical...but still bugs me. like when i am doing accounting or paperwork. his nose is right between the pen and paper...just sticks his nose as close to the tip of my pen as he can.

but...he only plays with electrical cords sometimes. that....i think i would worry about. the covers should help. seems like someone also said something about a topical treatment that is offensive if cats eat it....but dont know what that is. :0011:
