Okay....this is where Im going to lose any credibility I have in this forum.....but...
About 10 years ago someone was telling me that you can communicate what you want with mental imagry. I had been having problems with a cat that Id adopted, used to be an outside cat but I kept him inside (apartment, busy road and freeway about 2 minutes walk away etc)....he used to howl and cry and wreck the doors and screens attempting to get out, he succeeded a few times. So I figured I had nothing to lose by trying this mental imagry things...after one of his temper tantrums one day I picked him up, sat with him on the couch and started picturing him walking through our front door, down the stairs....(I even pictured him stopping to sniff at things on the way) and then I pictured him walking into the road and a big truck coming towards him....have you ever been able to switch fear on and off??? well I switched it on breifly and pictured him in a 'fright' position, claws grasping the street, back arched.....and then I went back to picturing him sitting on the window ledge watching the same truck drive down the street......

maybe it was a coincidence but straight after that he just quit trying to escape, stopped howling, stopped wrecking the doors and screens....I dont know!!!

Hmmmmm, that's pretty interesting. That's like what the Pet Psychic did on the Animal Planet show. Couldn't hurt, could it?

I'm off to communicate with Brie about her sleeping through the night. :D Wish me luck.

    Did it work????

Like you say though, it doesnt hurt so why not try it. There have been other things....like wait until your dog is laying down and relaxing, concentrate on the dog and picture the dog getting up and coming towards you....then see what happens, Ive done it but to be honest, pets senses are so much better than ours so I dont really know if the dog was responding to my 'mental imagry' or if I moved slightly, breathed a little harder, sniffed or coughed at the same time......

When I get to UK for this job theyve asked me to do something along the lines of continueing education which Im more than happy to do, I need to get some kind of certification that is accepted in UK and my California certification doesnt mean anything in UK. Ive already looked into a good school for canine behaviour and psychology which I can do about 3/4 on line but have to be there for exams (with my dog) and to do some of the coursework.....if I can I will look into this more, I just think that mind is an amazing thing, I believe that you can make yourself ill or improve your health just by focusing (not for everything but some things) its also a fact that we only used a small percentage of our brain....so whats the rest of it there for, we must be using it somehow we just dont know what....its not so hard to believe that anything is possible.

NO! Darn it, it didn't work! Brie has been whining through the night for the last three nights--when she's in her crate. It seems to be all of the sudden too. I put them in the kitchen this morning and she continued to whine and it even escalated to yipping. :? Now she's worn out and sleeping like a baby.

I always talk to my dogs. They listen but they don't always understand, but at least they do listen.
