I just saw a news article about how they have cloned an Afghan Hound in Korea. They say they are 1 yr away from commercial cloning. But they don't mean commercial pet cloning, they mean cloning for experiments. That is what the TV said anyway.

I don't really know how I feel about this. On one hand, I would love to have some of my dogs back, but would they really be my dogs? It is just very weird. Would they be the same dog, or would they just look like your old dog? I don't understand much about it. It just sort of makes me think about life after death. I'm not religious, but I think animals (and people) have souls at least. If you clone your dog, does that mean that their soul can't really "rest in peace".

I also get nervous about the experiment thing.

And then there is the fact that there are sooooo many dogs out there. While you get so attached to one, and you don't want that dog to ever leave you, you can become attached to a new one. (i'm not saying that right). Like..I didn't want Samantha to die, I wish I could have kept her forever, but if she hadn't of died, I would have never gotten the puppy, who I also love.

I'm sort of just rambling, I'm at work and bored at the moment. :)

No, I wouldn't clone my dog. I think I would feel like I was betraying the old dog, by pretending the new dog was exactly the same.

Identical twins have the same DNA, but they are still unique people.

I would love to have my first dog back if he were cloned it would only be genetically and cosmetically that it would be the same dog.

I think that unless you treated the cloned dog exactly like the original (i.e. putting the dog through the exact same things that the original went through, like the exact same environment and life experiences) then it could possibly act like the original dog but could also come out very different.

I would absolutly clone Duncan and Dowser if cloning was perfected. In the word "PERFECTED" I mean no genitec anomalies.
The only thing I consider in this formula is based on my beliefe in God and the soul of sentiant living creatures. Does God give a soul to a living thing that is based on man's design? If he does would that soul be a clone of the original template?
The personalities of both Duncan & Dowser are so unique I would say only God would have the ability to recreate these entities.

cloning is horrible and we shouldnt mess with it. Everyone looses things they love. Why recreate something that wont be your dog, just look like it. Why not just save a life and money and adopt? Not to mention all the health problems they come out with and so on.
