    Hello ALL,

I was hoping you guys could give me some help on a speech/report i'm doing for school.

Can anyone recommend a book(s) (that i could possibly check out in a public library), or direct me to some scholarly info on why commercial pet-foods are actually bad for dogs? Basically, the whole truth behind the pet-food industry kinda thing. Like, why & how poor nutrition has proven links to diseases and health problems, etc...

    Any help would be GREAT!!

It's crunch-time for me, because my speech is due on Wednesday :?

Hey there. I have some links for you. What's Really in Pet Food, from the Animal Protection Institute http://www.api4animals.org/79.htm

There is a book out call "Foods Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About pet food" by Ann Martin. I'm not sure you would have much luck finding info about this subject in a public library. Check out the link to an excerpt
    http://www.homevet.com/petcare/foodbook.html &
    http://www.critterchat.net/foodpets.htm

Its actually a good eye opener for anyone to read.

Also an article written by a DVM http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/0106-04.htm

Is this is along the lines of what you are looking for? Do you get any dog magazines? Next time you're in a large grocery or pet store have a flip through some of the magazines, maybe you'll be lucky enough to find some info....

Would love to read your speech or hear how it goes, let us know!
    Good luck
    Jas

hey guys thanks for the help!

    Jas,
a co-worker of mine recommended that same book ~ "Foods Pets Die For" to me just about 3 hours ago (how weird)... She actually had it with her, but she wouldn't let me borrow it (due to other people not returning books she's lent out in the past).

Anyhow, i'm definately going to read all of what's in those links you posted for me... Thanks so much for them!! It'll definately help me with my "Persuasive" type speech.

I sorta briefed through them already, and i'm loving the dates certain studies and research were done. They are the most recent ones i've come across, which is good for being "persuasive".
I checked out about a dozen books from two different public libraries, but non of them are as current as those you posted. They are good, but not as recent.

I am going to see if i can find that book in a local library to me.

Again, thanks for the help, and i will post my speech here when i'm done with it sometime late next week.
