dogs who have lived at shelters for years

What the heck?? This shelter has at least two dogs that have lived there most of their lives. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them, but of course now they are getting on in years. They are only about two hours from here so I may go look at them after we get back from vacation. If my parents still lived in Cincinnati, they would be right on our way!

Anyway, they are in New Bloomfield, MO, if anyone out there is near there and wants an older dog:

Wouldn't you think they would have really pushed these dogs years ago? It seems to odd to me. The shelter where we got Nala once had a dog stay for 6 months, but I think that was the longest ever. Maybe because this other shelter serves a smaller town or something?

Look at this cute-as-a-button pup they have there as well. I bet she'll go fast.

I saw another one at their site that is around 6 years old and has lived there since she was a pup. I am going to e-mail them and ask them what the deal is and do they need someone to foster their seniors.

I bet senior medium-sized dogs don't get adopted as fast as the little ones, though. The little ones can go to nursing homes with older people.

I hope the dogs get adopted!!!
That is a very very long time. I guess the dogs have adjusted.

I just e-mailed the person listed on the Petfinder.com site.
    I told them about 1-800-Save a Pet.
This is a great site that is getting more and more traffic.
I always double post my dogs and cats for adoption on both sites.
All the publicity helps get the dogs and cats moving quicker.

There are a whole bunch of them that have lived there for years! I wonder what the deal is. At least they will keep them as long as it takes. I hope the dogs are happy.

I don't know if they would even let me adopt since I'm sure they'd consider my dogs "not current on shots." Unless they would take my vet's word that they are fine. Ugh.

aww..that's really near me..unforunately...i still can't have more than one dog in my current situation and Annie doesn't always like female company..I can't believe they've been there so long...maybe I can go visit them or see if the shelter needs any help toting them to adoption days or anything.

There are some male dogs there who have been there for years as well. So far they haven't replied to my e-mail.

Someday, what ever happened to the stray that was with you for a while?
    Were you able to re-home??
I hope so. Sure seemed like a nice dog.

Well, i'm going to e-mail this shelter tonight and see if I can help out...they sure have a lot of dogs. My stray "Buddy" did find a home, however, he is still with me as he was just neutered today. So, as soon as he's feeling better he's off to his new home. Annie and I sure are going to miss him...he's a sweetie!
