Dooley has a tournament coming up so I ordered him a new flyball harness. The one he had was awful, it rubbed under his armpits and constantly was needing to be readjusted. I ordered this 4 days ago and I already have it, it was custom made for him and they put his name on it. They also made it in orange/black with his name in tennis ball yellow (team colors) for me, even though this is not one of the colors they normally offer. Awesome small company! That looks nice! I think the link should be alpineoutfitters.net, though. The other one is a hunting place. They actually hunt wolves!! I was shocked and dismayed...

    Maisey,
I have seen Flyball on TV but I am not that familiar with the details so forgive my dumb question. What is the function of the harness? Dooley looks like he's reday to go in his. It also looks like you could pick him up like a suitcase to tote him around. :D :D

I've seen people pick smaller dogs up like a suitcase using a harness or life jacket. It's always amusing. :)

I decided since Nala has finally figured out how to catch an object that maybe we would try flyball. I contacted the only local team, who used to have open practices. And they have quit. *sigh*

That is an awesome harness. I use a harness on my dog for flyball as he pulls so hard when waiting for his turn to run. I started with just a collar but he was in danger of injuring himself from pulling on his throat, so switched to a harness. Either or can be used in Flyball, it's up to the handler of each dog. Just no pinch or chain collars are allowed during racing. Bandit and I have to sit out the tournament this weekend due to illness (him) and injury (me).

    Yay! We did awesome!

Hi Dukesdad, the harness makes it easier to hold him back before the release and catch him when he returns. When dogs "turn on" to this sport, they get so excited and focussed on that box and ball that it's difficult to hold 'em back. Dooley would do everyones run for them if he could. He doesn't believe in taking turns when it comes to flyball. Many people do carry their little dogs like a suit case, by their harness. The first day, the first couple races I have to walk Dooley to the run backs with his front feet off the ground, otherwise I have trouble holding him. But after that he seems to remember his manners a bit better.

This weekend was awesome! We split our team into two teams, the first time we have had enough members to do this. As the X-Fidos..we named the two teams The Agents and The Aliens. Dooley was on the Agents (faster division). On Saturday we actually won our division..but they decidided to try something new and have elimination rounds, they re-seeded the teams and we lost first place by 19/100ths of a second and took second place. We have never placed better than fourth in anything but the lowest division. This time we were in division four and took second..we were thrilled. We had two "break outs"(when you run faster than allowed for your division) which has never happened to us! You are only allowed to do that 3 times and then you are gone. We tried running Dooley and a BC together and that was what happened...we will know who to put together next time!
The other team Aliens ran in division 5 and took second as well.
Sunday, we won first place!!! It was amazing and rewarding.
At some point on Saturday, I'm not sure when but with all the new people and dogs on our team we managed to become a real TEAM, you could feel it and it was great. I am very happy with the group we have going and can't wait until the next tournament.

Here is a link to a video with music(you have to hear the music!) that one of our team members put together, it's very cool =) For those with 56 k..it's gonna take a while...sorry.

I forgot to mention...Dooley got not one..but two titles this weekend. He got his FDCh and his FDCh-Silver.

I also got the opportunity to test him on sheep with a herding trainer...it was good for a laugh. Dooley is terrified of them, but the trainer said if we tied tennis balls to the sheeps necks he would surely tear them up! When done they gave Dooley a certificate(lol) and a huge tennis ball. When they brought the tennis ball up from under the table Dooley literally jumped on the table for the ball(No, his manners are usually not that lacking!) They thought that was funny. So, if any of you have a field of tennis balls you need rounded up...I have the dog for you!

Scratch that...apparently they don't give you points for going faster than you said you could go..LOL, so Dooley only got his FDCh, he missed the next title by a couple points. Oh well...next time!
