does anyone have ducks & dogs that get along okay with each other

That's an interesting possible combination but I don't have an answer. For the most part all animals can get along if they are raised together from an early age. Also some dog breeds might do better than others. The herding and protection group might "adopt" the ducks while members from the hunting and retreiving group might see them as a way to practice their trade.

My dad's friend owns a farm and he's had ducks and dogs together. Most of the dogs were ok with the ducks.

His Beagle just ignores them (she wasnt raised with them, my uncle found her on the road) and his Border Collies (past and present) likes to put them in nice neat herds. His Bull Terriers liked to wait until they were in a group and then they would run through the middle of the (not chasing, more of just "Let's see what reaction we can get out of them"). The only dog he has that doens't get along with them is his Chow whichi s fairly new to the farm.

How do you think a bloodhound, an american bulldog and a greatdane puppy would do if they were raised griwing up with the ducks?
The greatdane and bulldog sometimes try to chase at them and bark at them but the ducks are not scared and will stand and peck at them. So therefor the pups will stand and bark at them continuously until I come and stop them

I dont know about this....those ducks can be pretty aggressive, my old neighbours duck used to terrorise my German Shepherd, every time he lay down in the yard Googi would come over and beak bash his head, grab at his feet and tail.

Delauk does your german shepherd and your neighbors ducks get along?? would the dog hurt them?
We thought about that kind of dog but then thought they might be really aggressive to the ducks..does yours try to bite them?

That was a long time ago so I dont have Vega (the GSD) anymore but no he never went for the duck, he would just usually get up and run away....much to the ducks delight who would then chase him, occasionally hanging onto his tail and flapping his wings  He was an all round great dog, not aggressive with anything or anyone although did his duty in protecting his 'flock'. I agree with Dukesdad though, generally if you raise a dog with other specific animals they look at them as part of their pack but it doesnt always work like that. I dont have much more experience with ducks, apart from an inner city farm I used to work at, there were dozens of ducks and chickens and about 4 dogs that wandered around the place, a couple of the dogs came in as adult strays but there was never a problem that I know of.

I think its the chase mode, and if teh duck jus tstand there and the dogs dont have the drive to chase. Its like we have wild turkeys that are so used to our dogs now and vice versa, that when I have teh dogs outside the fence the turkeys are litterly 10 feet away and dont move and teh dogs dont chase. So as pups if they are showing that chase drive I think you will be okay, they are just barking, and not doing anything

I found and egg one time and decided to hatch it... So I kept in in my bra for about two weeks and it hatched on the 12th day!!!! low and behold it was a duck!!

His name was Mikey. The cats didn't bother him and the dogs just ignored him, however he decided he would bother the dogs...as he got older...

He used to go everywhere with me. I got a bucket and cut the front of it a bit so he could sit in it and I could put the seatbelt around him.

When he got full grown though, he started attacking Molly and Axel and they would snap at him. I was scared he'd get hurt, so I gave him to a lady that took animals to the Texas Childrens Hospital, Mikey spends his time making terminally ill children happy with a miniture horse, and a dog...

    LMAO!!!

I'm afraid it wouldn't work out very well for me. For one, a duck egg would definitely make a strange sort of lump so people might think I was growing a third breast.

:m39: Sams, that is the funniest story! I've heard of stuffing your bra, but that's a little extreme!
