Duke Alerts to "Intruder" Last Night

Following our usual routine for going to bed last night Duke had assumed his usual position at the foot of my side of the bed. Again, as usual, I told him to move over which he always does with a big groan of displeasure. As soon as I got into bed Duke's head popped up and while intently staring at the door to my closet he started growling.
My first thought was it must be a rat or some other uninvited varmint that I would have to face.
My closet door is one of those bifold shutter doors. Duke continued to stare and growl.
As soon as I sat up in bed where I could see the entire door I saw the 'intruder". There sticking out from under the door was the toe of a dark sock.
I got out of bed and called Duke over to investigate. He watched intently as I pulled the sock out and then started to attack it as if to kill it. It was hard not to laugh because he was just doing a great job of "protecting" his family from that dastardly sock.
With adequate praise for a job well done we all retired for a good nights sleep but I bet that for most of the night Duke kept one eye on that closet door. :D :D

Aww..poor Duke probably thought the rest of the monster was still in the closet! Except it only had one foot now, so much less threatening.

:m39: That's a great story! If a sock ever breaks in, it's in trouble!!

LOL! This reminds me of Nala and her reaction to the doorbell. The TV show Frasier has a doorbell that apparently sounds exactly like ours, and now I have discovered that the bell that sounds when the elevator door opens on Murphy Brown also sounds like our doorbell. If either of these things happens on TV, Nala growls and whuffs and barks and gets all upset. It is either annoying or humorous.

Other TV doorbells do not have this effect.

    Oh how funny!!!

I have a Sock problem myself.... everytime I stick a pair in the dryer, only one comes out!!! Perhaps the sock monster has been defeated since duke caught him trying to theive one of yours!!
