Duke can't tell a treat from a tree

I was talking to Duke last night with my sore knee resting on the ottoman. Duke was sitting and listening, as he usually does, very attentively. I said to him, "You know why I have a sore knee don't you? It's because you ran into me last Saturday." Then I said, "What if I had been a tree, you would have hurt yourself." When I said that his head rose up about two more inches in height and those ears popped to attention. Then I realized that he must have thought he heard the word treat instead of tree. Guess they do sound close enough to a dog.
So I then asked him if he wanted a tree. Again, close enough to that magic word for Duke so he starts dancing around all excited waiting for me to give him a tree. :D
