Duke Finds Another "Prize" In The Backyard

Saturday morning I was reading the paper while the boys were out in the backyard. Dukesmom was in the kitchen and hollered out to me to see what Duke was carrying around.
I went out just as Duke zoomed past with what I thought was a strange stick. I told him to drop it which he did. When I got close enough to identify the object I realized it was essentially the mummified remains of a squirrel. Just skin and bones.
Of course he didn't want to give up such a great prize so I just swapped a treat for the mummy and disposed of it while he was munching away. :D :D

 If theres a 'mummy' to be found you can gaurantee they'll find it. Ive had a few 'sticks' brought in....mine usually turn out to be lizards though.

 That's funny! My Mom's froo-froo pom found one under a shed where I used to live. All of the dogs took a turn rolling on it before I realized what they had!

This latest escapade of Duke has conjured up one of my more distasteful memories of my precious dogs that I have at the moment.

Before Reese and Grace came into our lives, my beloved dog Cedo passed away at home. We buried him in the corner of the yard under the big eucalyptus tree.

One day I get a frantic call on my cell from my Hubby not to come home for awile. I could tell he was upset. Come to find out was that when he came home, Grace had dug up the grave and was carrying Cedo's skull around and chewing on it. There was also an assortment of other bones scattered around. My Hubby and a friend hurried, found all the bones, and reburied my beloved dog before I got home.

When I got home and found out what happened, I was devastated. Of course Hubby sugar-coated the whole scenario to make it sound not as bad as it was.

I thought to myself that I would never be able to hug and "kiss" Grace ever again. Then an hour or so after her little desecration, she proceeded to throw up. Knowing fully well what the contents of her stomach was, I almost fainted.

A couple of weeks later, I was out doing doggie clean-up and I just so happen to look down spotted something odd. I got a closer look and saw that it was a mandible bone complete with teeth. I totally freaked out again!!!! Hubby comes running to the rescue again. Then he proceeds to make my beloved Cedo "whole" again.

Following later is a large cement slab covering the grave with a beautiful marker. Now Cedo can rest in peace.

I worried about this exact thing when we got Nala. I also didn't want her to pee on the grave spot. I shooed her away from it many times that first day and it was always traumatic for me. The next day, my husband put up a fence around the tree where Hocus, my previous dog, is buried.
