Duke really clobbered me last Saturday

It's almost ironic that my favorite story from John Grogan's "Marley and Me" actually happened to me last Saturday. I took the boys to the lake and after walking over the levee and about 1/4 mile we reached the lake and the boys dove in. They were about thirty feet away when they came bounding out of the water and started running toward me at full speed. As Grogan said about Marley as Marley was running at him "I thought he would stop but just before impact, when I could see his eyes, I could tell that the pilot had left the wheelhouse." Duke, likewise, didn't seem to notice that I was standing there and slammed into my knee pushing my knee back and inward and believe me knees do not bend that way.
When I hit the ground I actually thought my leg was broken. The intense pain did start to abate and in about five minutes and I was able to push myself up into a sitting position. I could see a couple of people way off on the other side of the lake so I knew that I could eventually get help if needed.
In the meantime the boys were off a ways sniffing and frolicking like nothing was wrong.
In another ten minutes I managed to get on my feet just as a couple of other folks arrived with their dogs. Testing my leg I knew it was not broken but I also knew I needed to get an ice pack on it ASAP. I gathered the dogs in and gimped my way back to the car and in another 20 minutes I was propped up with the ice pack and stoked up on Ibuprofen.
With the help of a brace the knee has continued to improve so I am now convinced no ligament damage was done and it was just a bad sprain.
I just can't imagine why he did not see me. He was not distracted by Freckles as I have learned to take evasive action when they are coming at me playing bitey face. I know they are not paying attention but in this case he was just blinded by the pure feeling of elation I guess.
Has anyone else been clobbered by their dog?

OH DukesDad. I feel your pain....
    Happened to me.

When I first got Byeboer, he was hardly leash trained at all. and a 180lb dog, goes where a 180lb dog wants to go...
I guess he just "forgot" I was on the other end of the least, so Off he goes. I fly forward and he drags me about 100feet on my belly across a gravel road. Tore me to shreds!!!
I was afraid to let go seeing as how the busy road was n't far from me... Luckily once i got over the shock of fallin, I gained my voice back and hollared Boe!!! STOP!!! and he did...

snickers has yet to injure me, but i have scars from ranger. let's see...dragged me so that my foot got caught on some weird spiky cement sculpture and sliced my toe, then when he was about 6 months old he randomly switched sides while we were jogging and tripped me, my elbow caught a pebble and it took out a chunk. i actually didn't notice the elbow until someone told me it was bleeding, which was quite strange. he's tripped me a couple of times playing soccer, but that was in the grass, he's a real ball hog, lol.

My female Boerboel Askari, the momma to Sams Kabuki had a habit of jumping...leaping towards me. She knew better than to "jump up" but for the life of me I could not get her to quit leaping, and when I'd least expect it. On one occasion she leapt over Precious (as a puppy at my house) as I leaned down to pet her...(Precious) Askari hit me straight in the side of the head with her head and the force of her 100lb body behind her...I was sure I'd been knocked into a concussion but gladly was not. Creative training kept her from doing it again...eeeeeks.

Dukesdad...sorry to hear about the injury. Annie did the same thing to my husband last year. The poor guy had a limp for over a week. I also loved that passage in Marley and Me and was laughing like crazy when Annie did it because it really was a sight. I was appropriately sympathetic when I noticed my husband writhing in pain though.
    Hope you feel better soon!
