Duke's Gift to the Birds

I recently discovered that grooming aid for short hair dogs that consist of a metal band with tiny saw teeth. I don't know what it's called but it does a terrific job of pulling out that dense undercoat that Duke is now shedding in profusion.
Last week I spent almost every evening on the back deck brushing out gobs of that hair. The tufts would float out and cover the yard but the next day it would all be gone. Then I saw a sparrow swoop down and gather up a beak full and then zoom away. I gathered up a big wad and stuck it on top of the wooden fence and within a minute another bird landed and loaded up. I bet there are a lot of very comfortable bird nest in my neighborhood thanks to Duke.

This is why I always have to laugh when someone comes to our adoptions looking for a short-haired dog because they don't want it to shed much.

yep it's spring! I'm brushing out gobs of that fluffy undercoat too! I let the stuff float through the air in my yard. The birds love that stuff! I think there are a lot of comfortable baby birds around my neighborhood too!

My guys are going to the groomer for a bath next week. The bath will pull out a lot of that shedding undercoat!

Ok I wonder if this tool would work on the fine fluffy under coat that Duncan has. He has the Chow Chow like fur and it is everywhere. Dowser has the Rotwieller like fur and does not shed near as much. I don't think i ever find Pepsi fur.

    DMikeM,
I found that this rake tool does not work on Freckle's long coat. I have to use a regular brush. I am going to check out that grooming brush made by Kong, I believe it's called a Zoom Groom or something like that.

So far I have been using one of those wire undercoat brushes, but all three dogs get annoyed by it very quickly. I think it is too rough for prolonged use.

I saw one of those at the feed store but it looks too much like a toy to me and the combs seem to be of a usless arrangment. Not discounting your idea but I think will skip that one.

After doing a little research on grooming Chows I have decided to get a pin brush, and a rake to go with my wire brush and I should be good to go on all three dogs.

On another note why does Auspet think they need to Iframe every linked website that is clicked from here? It is stupidy annoying.

I had problems with the slickers and combs too. I went to the feed store and bought a 'curry' brush that they use on horses. They look similar to the Kong. I might check out the Kong too! They weren't making them when I bought the curry brush.

I had a "Pet Mitt" (As seen on TV) years ago. It got old and the rubber got to dry to use. It was excellent on my furry golden. I don't thing they make them anymore.

Those kongs don't look like they would work for the undercoat, but I bought one for my cat a few years ago since she loves rubbing on things, and it pulled tons of fur off of her, so I thought I would try it on the dogs and boy does it get the hair off! Because it's rubber, it attracts the hair, kind've like if you walk across furry carpet in shoes with rubber soles you wind up with furry shoes. Anyway, both of my dogs love it because it isn't hard like a wire brush and I love it because of all of the hair it gets off!
