i play with my 1 year old female indoor cat approximately 45 mins to and hour each day. i have noticed over the past 2-3 weeks when i play games that involve lots of running around, that she gets out of breathe very very easily and pants a lot, while still playing. sometimes she just lies there and pants and her whole body shakes. i stop and offer her water but she doesn't seem to want it. she still wants to play, but is finding running around difficult.

anybody knows what may be wrong with her? i'm taking her to the vet soon.

my zeus does that sometimes - I stop him fro playing. Like dogs cats don't have sweat glands so their bodies cool down by panting

Just the same keep an eye on her litter box habits, make sure they are normal, that she is eating and drinking normally... and or keep an eye out for any other signs of odd behavior.

Panting could just be to cool herself down-- or a begining warning for something else if it only just started.

*eyes shift* dont mind me i worry about alot.

Hi and welcome to Auspet. :D If any of my kitties played for that long in one sitting, they would be panting a lot too. Perhaps you could either cut down the playing time to 15 minute sessions or have less active play with her. Meaning, if she's running around all over the place for 45-60 minutes, play with her in such a way where she doesn't have to run around so much for such a long period of time. Also as soon as you notice her panting, let her take a break until she stops and then you can resume playing again. Do you have any pics of her you can post?

hi. sometimes i don't play with her that long in one sitting, it usually happens in the first 5 minutes of playing and then i stop, and start again with gentler play sometimes.

thank you vene for that link, she used to cough/wheeze a bit but that has subsided.
