Feeding feral cats?

There is a local cat rescue here in SC that say they need volunteers to help feed feral cats in the morning. Aparently there is a feral cat colony near a local hospital and they feed them every morning and night. I'm not sure of their procedures but does this sound like a good idea? I mean...I was thinking about volunteering b/c I do want to help but I'm not really in a terribly great position to foster so I could do the feeding thing once a week in the morning. But I'm sort of afraid of somehow getting my cat sick. Is there something that I could somehow catch and give to him? Is this overall a good or bad idea? Just wanted other thoughts to help me make a decision.

you could wear old shoes/clothes and change them before going back into your house. Wash your hands well before you have any contact with your cats.
Changes are good you probably won't even see the feral cats. They probably stay hidden until food is left and people are gone.
A lot of the fosters do the above - they change their clothes after leaving the foster room, keep a pair of shoes in the foster room and put them on/off according to coming or going from the room.
Then wash their hands well before touching their cats.

What an awesome idea that you might be helping out the feral colony. :y_the_best: The best part is, it won't take up too much of your time! Here's a link to some interesting feral cat focus info:
