He's super cute. I know you didn't ask for advice, but you have turned him into a 'people food beggar.' If it bothers you that he wants to have a taste of your food, you may want to not ever give him any of your food. He knows now, that all he has to do is come up to you and you'll give him some of your food. That's okay if it's just a tiny bit. The only thing that I don't like is cats that come right over to you when you are eating. I never give my cats my food, so they don't beg for it. They know they won't get so much as a lick. I have a couple of friends, who have turned their cats into people food beggars and it's kind of annoying. LOL. Anyway, as I mentioned before, I know you didn't ask for my opinion, so I'll stop typing before I get more annoying! :mrgreen

I honestly dont mind any advice. I would love to "break" him of this habit. but I dont know how and I dont want to be mean. just saying no and moving him away doesnt help. he just keeps comming. as I tyoe, he is trying to get my coffee. I keep putting him on the ground and he keeps jumping on me. I usually give in so he will stop. go ahead and give me advice on how to break him. its reall annoying when my mom comes over and he tries to eat her food.

Hi Misssmurf26. Okay, I'll give you a few pointers. However, you may find that training a cat to break this habit is more annoying than them begging for your food or drink.

    1) Never ever give in! They can beg, they can climb up on your lap, jump up on the table, meow their head off, but don't even once give in. Be strong! Cats are highly intelligent and they know us well. Your cat for instance knows that if he's persistent enough you will eventually give in and he'll get what he wants (your food or drink). It may take a few weeks of him driving you nuts, but eventually he will learn that he's just not going to be getting any food/drinks from you.

    2) When he is begging/climbing on your lap/table/chair to get food, say a firm 'NO' and put him down on the ground (gently of course) OR carry him over to his own cat food. He's going to drive you nutty as he will just keep doing the same thing over and over trying to get what he wants. Again, be strong and don't give in. You are going to train your kitty to not be a food beggar if it's the last thing you do!

Be strong Misssmurf26. Don't give in to his demands. You can break your kitty of this habit. It's going to be tough. Hang in there. I wish you luck.

hey Chessmind. any tips on how to keep him out of the fish tanks? I have one tank that the filter isnt covered (its not a bio wheel, its a waterfall type thing) and he wont drink water unless it comes from my cup or the tank. I keep the tank clean (every week I do water changes and the water is cycled so no spikes in anything) but I dont think that water is good for him. if I cover the water up he will wait till someone leaves a drink on the table and drink that or he will wait till I have the faucet running and drink out of there. doesnt matter that they get fresh water probably 6 or 7 times a day. HELP!!!!

What a funny pic! Which is Neff and which is Boots? Rene likes to drink out of the faucet so everyone recommended a drinking fountain. I purchased a Drinkwell fountain and Rene has left my faucet and sink most of the time. I turn on the water pump whenever she wants to drink. Someone mentioned that Target stores has a good cheaper version of the Drinkwell fountain or something along those lines. A running water fountain with good filters might keep him out of the fish tanks.

Yes, get a cat water fountain. They are really great and cats love them. There are different kinds. Here is a pic below to give you a general idea as to what they look like:

Also, get a cover for your fish tank or try and put some kind of covering over the top so he can't drink out of it. Also keep in mind that cats do not like their water or their litter near their food. So always put water and litter boxes far away from their food.

neff AKA Mouth is the one with his mouth open and tongue out. hence the new name mouth LOL drinkwell fountain? is that made for cats? I have never heard of it. I was actually thinking about bying a reptile fountain but if they make them for cats then I'll have to get one of those. I'll have to go look for one. boots is the one eating. she has to eat when he is occupied cause he wont let anyone else eat when he is. I set out 3 bowls of food, one dog and 2 cat and he guards them all till he is done. its so funny and the other animals wait till he is done. LOL

I NEVER knew that. maybe thats why he wont drink it. I have the water between 2 bowls of food. I'll have to go move it now. maybe that will help

LOL's! :0023: :0017: :m39: I forgot to tell you that I have the exact opposite problem. I can't get my kitties to share our table foods ever since I started feeding them premium dry and wet foods. They even turn up their noses at cold cut treats (I know, not good for them with the salts and nitrates) with the exeption of Pumpkin. She begs on the table for fried fish, KFC and grilled chicken and shrimp but nothing else. I like it when they are on the table and begging politely. Pooky (RIP) used to jump on our tables and knock over our dinner plates when we are not looking. We used to lock him up in another room when we eat dinner. The door was a French door so he drools as he watches us eat.
