FIP

I wish that there was a better way of finding out about this disease!! I just had to put my 24 week old kitten to sleep Friday because of this terrible deal. I guess that all cats have this virus in them but only sometimes does it mutate into the full blown 100% deadly FIP. I want to get another kitten I just don't/can't go through that again. Talk about heart renching. Any suggestions?

 

be sure to thoroughly clean your house prior to bringing another kitten in. I've been fostering kittens from some dire circumstances for a couple of years and I've never had one with FIP (knocking on wood). Not every kitten will have it...But if you can try to find out, first, the history of the kitten. Was it a stray or owner giveup? Strays might be more apt to have this - but again that's not necessarily true either. I know someone who bought a beautiful Oriental and it ended up having the wet form of FIP.

FIP is very uncommon or rare in cats. You can have your new kitten tested for it and give them the vaccine (very expensive).
