I kept Oscars before.. even though I am not fascinated by them.. :? But come back to the point.. They are agrressive fishes and they can grow to some extent.. I would recommend to at least 50g to keep these cichlids..Good luck on your oscar tank.

Is that the same thank that has the high nitrAtes and the oscar that currently has ich? 35 gallons is far from being adequate for those fish and it's starting to show. I don't see how you can look at that tank and think it's not crowded. I bet the fish can hardly move w/o touching either eachother or the sides of the tank. That is not a good environment and you shouldn't go around suggesting that it is.

Well, either way, a 35 gallon tank is WAY too small for an oscar.

I've been under the impression that a full grown oscar wouldn't even be able to turn around in a 35 gallon tank! So much for quality of life. Are you planning on upgrading as the fish grows? As more tank space will also help him stay healthy and disease free.

Yes, a 35 gallon tank IS too small for one oscar.

It's not just a matter of the fish physically fitting into the tank (althougha 35 definitely doesn't give the fish much room to move around). You also have to consider bioload. You, yourself, said that your 35 gallon tank with a 4" oscar (note that the fish is still less than 1/3 it's full size) gets weekly water changes and your nitrAtes are still twice what they should be. A 35 gallon tank simply does not provide enough water to adequately dillute the waste of a fish that size.

how would you feel if someone stuck you in a cage were you had 2 inches to move left, 2 to move right, an inch to move up, and thur pellets at you twice a day and cleaned up after you once a week? sure you'd live but youd be ill and very very unhappy.

if i were to live on that kind of cage.. I would rather commit suicide.

Oscars get big, right. That 35g is way too small! Ive been asking around other places and nobody will tell me to keep O's in anything but 55g +. (cant get the quote to work so: Chris5302 wrote: 'how many r u getting' i only wanna get one).[/quote]
